OK here's an on-topic point:

What time do Apple's retail stores close?
How long until then in hours?

I can't believe that if these 'do not open until...' boxes do exist, someone could resist the temptation to reveal all this evening. They wouldn't get caught.

Maybe a better question would be, which Apple Store has an elevator? :p

So, of all those 1000+ posts, how many people out there are actually going to buy one?

If I could get a high end MacBook for under 1500, I will buy it as soon as CompUsa has it.
I want
>=100gb drive
Core Duo 1.8 or 2.0
bluetooth
802.11g
512mb RAM (expandable to 2 or 4gb)
FireWire (800 would be nice, but doubtful)
3 or more USB 2.0 ports
SuperDrive (dual layer 8x as an option maybe)
at least 1280x800 resolution
10/100/1000 Ethernet

and still under 5 lbs.

Here's hoping... :)

Doesn't it seem awful quiet to you right now, from the position of Apple, I mean.

o and btw. all rumors are still based on: I WANT....... and actually believing it themselfs that apple wont do it for less.
will see, i hope a smaller macbook pro 13inch, so costs less... but not sure that price will actually make much differents

My *PERFECT* machine that I realistically hope they offer is:

Intel Core Duo 1.66GHz Processor
13.3" TFT
512MB DDR667 Memory (will be U/G to 1.5GB)
80GB HDD 5400rpm
Radeon X1400 128MB GPU + Upto 512MB Hypermemory
SuperDrive
iSight and FrontRow
Better speakers built-in/Audio in-out please w/ 5.1+ Support
Airport+Bluetooth+Standard stuff (can do without a modem)

$1499/£1099

I don't think its that unreasonable. Note I said a HIGH END macbook.
I think 1500 is more than reasonable for those specs.

http://reviews.cnet.com/HP_Pavilion_dv1000t/4507-3121_7-31692317.html?tag=sub

Now, that has an 80gig drive and can only go to 1gig of RAM, but it is also more than $500 less than what I was proposing.

This, I think is realistic, except I'm not so sure about everything on your audio line: I'm guessing the built-in speakers will be about the same, you won't get audio in on a non-Pro computer, and no 5.1+ support.

You'll get everything else, though. Maybe even a 100GB HD.

Also, what is Hypermemory?

Sorry, but the Macbook that appeared in the Apple hierarchy menu the other day leaves me convinced it is going to be announced and orders will taken very very soon. Tuesday. Maybe Wednesday. Not the 19th. This mistake at Apple would not have happened so far before the release.

It also unfortunately seals the deal that it will be called a MacBook.

I'll be just a disapointed as the next guy if no new iBooks, MacBooks or whatever Apple intends to call them, are announced tomorrow. I'd like to retire my 1GHZ Tibook. I love Macs too. I've spent the past 4 years servicing Mac desktops & portables for an authorized Apple dealer. I too, routinely scour the rumor sites to see what next big product, Apple will release but I think many Mac users are on the verge of becoming as annoying as Star Trek Trekkies. Relax people, it's just a freakin' computer. Go talk to your kids, go for a walk in the park, for heaven's sake go get laid. Maybe after you've done all of those things, you'll log on to Macrumors, AppleInsider or Think Secret and you find out Apple has announced it's latest & greatest product.

I hope Apple doesn't screw up their displays if they use a 1280x800 resolution. I was using a MacBook Pro at the Apple Store and when I changed the resolution to 1024x768, it stretched the screen instead of putting a black border around the screen. Dumb move! Not only does the screen look like crap, the output to a projector will look like crap too. Not pretty if you're trying to impress a client. :(

I hope they do what the Sony 13.3 in widescreen notebook does - put black borders around the screen in the non-1280x800 screens. When displayed on a projector, the screen will look sharp and crisp instead of "soft" due to the stretching.

I hope Apple realises that people will be using the MacBook for presentations. I happily use my 12" iBook with its native 1024x768 display which matches my projector. I'd like to continue using my projector in its native resolution in a potential new MacBook.

You do realise it's outputting at the resolution required by the projecter (1024x768) so it would be fine - how it looks on the screen in the MBP wouldn't matter when you're using external monitors. It's only stretched on the MBP because the display is obviously capable of much higher (and widescreen) resolutions. When it comes to outputting the display whatever you're outputting the display to will decide the dimensions of the final image.

I mean, duh!

Woodcrest is a workstation/server processor, just like Xeon. It will be used in anything that needs two sockets - it's the cheapest multi-socket capable chip.

Xeons have been available in two socket and multi-socket versions for many years. Most of the current ones are basically Pentium 4s with the additional logic for inter-socket synchronization enabled.

Woodcrest/Conroe/Merom are basically the same design, with different capabilities and power envelopes. Don't think of Woodcrest as a "server" chip per se, it's just the version of the Core 2 line that is more powerful and supports two sockets.

If Apple wants more than two cores this summer, Woodcrest is the only option.

Quad Core Woodcrest Macs by WWDC Aparently
Considering the HP/Dell/IBM will be selling quad-core Woodcrest systems in June, Apple should be able to get something out by August.

They'll need to keep the quad PMG5 around at least another 6 months or so - until the fat binary situation is better they can't cut off the supply of the systems that run pro software best.

So I take it that Woodcrest is "Core 2 Extreme"?

The Quad G5's have been on the Refurb page since early February. I guess it won't hurt for them to stay on there til Adobe ships CM3. Is that what you mean?

I am unfamiliar with "the fat binary situation". Would you mind elaborating on what you mean by that?

The image will only be stretched on your MacBook, not on the projector, and that's only if you're doing mirroring (not spanning).

Hopefully, though, the MacBook has spanning capability, so you don't need to worry about it at all - run the MB at 1280x800 and the projector at 1024x768.

On a side note - does anyone know what the heck was in those new Apple Store displays that said "do not open until May 9" - they started this whole rumor, after all?

Hi,
Maybe tommorrow? Next week?
Apple usually releases products later in the month.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here we go again......

All we need now is a post from someone with the usual-
My best friends brother's mother's cousin's aunt's half brother's grandfather twice removeds nephew works 3 doors down from an apple store and he has lunch with someone who works there and he told me that the Macbook is definetly coming out later this month!!

New thread time, same ol' waste of time!

(Not meaning to have a go at anyone just sick of waiting for a damn Apple laptop for less than £1,400 (Every other laptop manufacturer can do it:mad: )

Not to nitpick (Oh to Hell with it, I'm nitpicking! And I'd do it again! Muahaha!), but in that situation, if the guy told you personally it implies you know him, so instead of being your 'best friends brother's mother's cousin's aunt's half brother's grandfather twice removeds nephew', he's really just 'A guy I know that knows an Apple employee'. :p Makes the chain much shorter...

I'm writing this, and I have no idea why I noticed that.

Guess I'm just bored waiting for an affordable MacBook... :p

Maybe tomorrow we could rename the title of this thread, "Macbooks released yesterday?"

Y'know, it's nice to finally be appreciated. You Mac folk are much kinder on ol' Scruff than the mean PC users I've dealt with for years, ^_^.

Oh, er <Insert MacBook Comment Here>. And Now I'm on-topic, :p.

And the answer is...........
A Load of hot air!!!!

I asked Regent Street London Apple Store and they didn't know anything about mystery parcels (And they did look sincere)

There's a garden path somewhere and we've just been led right up it:mad:

So the clocks ticking until someone else has some hot gossip (Thats a load of old rubbish) about when the Mac/ibook is coming out.

Is anyone else thinking we've another Duke Nukem Forever on our hands here...

No just a raw potato and some cooking oil (AKA thermal grease).

Can I just remind you that the iBook G3 to G4 happened over night without any major fuss, so I would not expect too see some special event over the Macbook being released, unless the co-incide it with an education event.

Except that the Macbook is an entirely new product.

If they can hold an event for a giant white speaker with a dock soldered onto the top, they'll hold one for the MacBook.

LOL, too funny. You are right about that. I don't really buy the inventory story this morning on the delay. They released the MBP Hot Plates well before they had any chance of shipping them. Nothing but a cover my arse story here this morning.

Honestly, the cover story may or may not be true. Apple is very likely (and very rightly) expecting huge demand for these machines, and they want to be able to say 'GO GET 'EM!' at the event without much risk of supply bottlenecking. The target demographic for the MacBook is completely different from and much larger than the MacBook Pro's.

I was just called by Apple sales person, following up on an order. I asked when? He said he couldn't tell me, and did not know, but did say that on the 16th there will be announced a major product.....And he said my guess about what that might be was the same as his guess.....

Just ask, and ye shall receive...
