yes in that i think it will help in the future... no in that i don't need it right this second.
supposedly nothing saturates 400 really... that said, i'm sure things in the future will come closer, so it's a step forward. and for video folks, it will affect what all you can capture with "simple" tools like firewire

Absolutely, I have 50+ devices ready to go, I'm just waiting for FW2! Well, I will, just watch.

Good answer. I agree, not now, but it will become useful in the future.

I don't have anything that I think could use more bandwidth than Firewire 400.

I remeber thinking that when the first FW G3s came out, and now I totally reply on FW400.
FW800 is important for me as somehow I'll need it in the future as I do video with lots of external devices - it was definitely a clinching deal to buying my new PM.

FW 800 may make it possible to have external PCI chassis that actually work at PCI speeds... since you can have redundant cables and speeds upto 3.2gb/sec, this is going to be awesome, so yes, it is important to get it developing.

I work in design and photography, and FW800 will be great for the RAID setups we use on the file servers and for the digital photographers. And I'm not talking about Nikon D1s and such, but the big honking large format digitals that take 20 MB images. I see tremedous possiblilities for the growth of FW800 and the different things we will be able to do with the different implimentations it will have.

With 400Mbps IP-over-Firewire running just shy of Gigabit Ethernet speed, I would think IP-over-Firewire at 800Mbps would be quite impressive performance wise.

I have no need for it right now, but I'm sure in the next few years I will.
