So how many of you guys are in the UK waiting for a TNT delivery?
Looks like TNT have f***ed up big time and my MBP17 is still sitting in Shanghai airport, even though they picked it up from Apple on the 6th...

Well originally the order said ship by the 8th, delivery by the 10th. Then it shipped on the 6th and delivery changed to by the 12th. Now it's the 15th... I've never bought from the Apple store before and I have to say the experience isn't that great, if FedEx can deliver them in the US why can't TNT get them to the UK sooner.
Wish they'd used UPS, it would be here by now :(

Shipping to Europe is a joke with Apple Store and their "logistics partner".
So many bad experiences :( The Yankees wouldn't put up with it though.

Well once it arrives I'll definately be giving Apple some feedback, at this rate it'll be mid next week before I get it, which is some way off the 2-3 days shipping they quoted.

My order is the same. Took the slow rickshaw from factory to Airport
and is now stuck there. Was originally meant to ship on the 12th with
delivery on the 18th so I can't really complain too much.

No such luck - the info above is from TNT's tracking, so they've aleady got hold of the shipment in Shangai.
If they simply forgot (or whatever!) to put the crate on the plane, then we should see some movement ASAP. I do hope that's all that went wrong...

Yeah, that's pretty poor from TNT/Apple. I was hoping to get it by the weekend at least, and now it's looking like next Monday  But there's nothing we can do except sit and wait... My worry is that it's going to be one of those snafus where the consignment goes AWOL and noone takes responsibility for it i.e. we don't see our MBPs until sometime late June.
Rant: honestly - putting a consignment on a plane; just how difficult do TNT find that?! It's their business, it should be a core competency. And what's worst is that I have no option, no choice to use a more reliable carrier - I've got to accept the carrier of Apple's choice.

Can I just add that I've just had excellent experience with TNT.
They tried to frop off my Miglia USBTV thingon Friday afternoon - I had just missed them. Anyway it was like 23:00 that Friday, and I thought, "Would it hurt to call the number and see what they can do?"
I hadn't expected anyone to pick up - but a bloke picked up and askedfor my reference. To cut a long story short, he said he'd try to put it out for the Saturday delivery - it was in my hand 10hours after that!
Well done bloke in the Luton TNT place - you're a legend. Even the guy who delivered the thing seemed in a great mood. Great service, well done TNT, very happy!!

I found the tracking between Shanghai and Amsterdam/Arnhem non-existant when I ordered my 15" MBP. I couldn't even use the old method of checking Kuehne & Nagel's tracking for that part of the journey.
Took about 4 days I think for mine to get to The Netherlands (although part of that was over the weekend).
Your "shipping" email from the Apple Store should give an estimated arrival date. In most cases (and from previous purchases) I think this is approximately a week for macs and a couple of days for any other hardware bits to the UK. I've had only positive experience purchasing from the Apple Store and I'm sure it was TNT who delivered on at least one of those occasions. Patience is a virtue ;)

Yes the shipping email does, but the apple site and TNT are now moving this date as it appears they're still stuck in Shanghai. I'm sure it's a cock up on someones part or customs holding the shipment and it'll soon work it's way here.

This from Apple:
"Estimated Delivery Date: 15 May 2006 (Subject to change)
Current Delivery Status: In Transit to Customer - Shipment on Schedule"
It sure is easy for the shipment to be "on schedule" when the estimated delivery date keeps changing to compensate for the "scheduled" delays in delivery…

Actually, the tracking seems pretty flakey compared to the last few times I've bought from the Apple Store. I seem to remember that usually the TNT tracking notes when consignments have left places (hubs etc.) - not just when they've been received - and when they're in the air; being transported from the Netherlands to the UK, for example. Some of those things appear to be missing this time, which is strange...
I would have expected the transfer from the Netherlands to the UK to at least be in progress (and noted in the tracking) by now; the MBPs have no reason to remain Amsterdam/Arnhem longer than overnight.
And that some individual consignments are still listed in the tracking as being in Amsterdam raises futher doubts about TNT's tracking credibility. It seems unlikely that the UK-destined MBP consignment has been split up.

Yeah but don't companies deem up to a set number of pixels as exceptable?
I believe Apple's specs are either up to 5 dark pixels or 3 light pixels (or a combination of 7) are acceptable. This is quite standard for all LCD/TFT manufacturers.
Although this gets blurred a bit because they usually also take into account the position of the dead pixels, so if you had a few right in the center they'd be more inclined to replace it than if the pixels were around the edge of the screen. With one dead pixel I doubt they'll replace it unless they're in a very good mood.
Try massaging the pixel. This has been discussed before on this forum.

May 12, 2006, 05:25 AM
I've given it a quick massage but will try a few times. TBH it's hardly noticable with it being black and only one pixel.

two hours later and it's pretty hot, much hotter than my powerbook ever got. The bar above the function keys is very hot, you can't hold your fingers on it for too long without it being uncomfortable. I have had it sat on top of the cloth bag it comes in so have put it straight on the desk to see if it cools down.
All I've done so far is format the drive and start a reinstall so nothing too intensive.
It is plugged in though.

I have always had bad experiences with TNT with new products, but with products that are a few months old it seems fine. Maybe it's the extra load? Still, I went to the shops and bought my MBP the second one of the stores had them in stock, and while I got mine a week or so after most people in the US who ordered them, I got mine a few weeks before most people on these forums in Europe who ordered one and complained about the delivery time. I always buy new products from the store as soon as they have them, I seem to get them quicker. Anything that's not new I order online.

And it's going back ASAP –*the latch is not working properly: the one on the right hand side doesn't click into place and allows the right side to open up when I pick up the MBP.
I can go through this whole process again now, since they've ordered me a "high priority" replacement.
Other than the latch it is a blazing fast machine. It got hot above the F keys, but not excessively so. No probs with the screen – it fairs very well against my 20" iMac screen.

Yes, I phoned Apple on Tuesday and the sales rep said no problem, £100 refund on my credit card.
But… since my first MBP was DOA, I am still waiting for the replacement. Only when that arrives will the cash actually be refunded. If the MBP delivery is delayed beyond the 14 days, then he said I don't get the refund! Weird policy…
Assuming you have your MBP in hand, getting the refund should be no problem.

Its NEVER faster to wait till John Lewis get them in. I used to work at the Southampton branch, trust me, this is one example of a company sooooo not equipped to handle electrical goods.
It takes around 4 days to transfer from a local warehouse only 1km away to the branch itself, then maybe a further 2 days to get one up to the shop floor.
In the cut throat, high priced, fast paced world of consumer electronics, John Lewis treat DVD players and stocks of iPods with the same priority as packs of pencils and picture frames.

Good luck....let us know....and the week of build.
Week 18.
No whine. No excessive heat. Latch works as it should. Top aligns with base when the lid is closed. All super! And stunningly fast. The assscat is officially happy :)

Here's another one for the collection:
Ordered Macbook on the 3rd of June. Realised pretty quickly that I'd accidentally neglected to mention that the billing and shipping addresses were different. Called them up, they told me that they couldn't (be arsed to) do anything because the order had been processed, and that I should call them when I get my shipment email. Got that on the 10th but missed it that day, following day was a Sunday so called them on Monday the 12th, they said they'd sort it out. Fine.
TNT then attempted to deliver the thing on the 14th to the old address, and failed. Goes back to depot. Call TNT to make sure they've got the new address. They haven't. Email apple who tell me that they'll deliever to the new address the following day (15th). Nothing. Call TNT on Friday 16th, they tell me it'll definitely arrive on Monday. Feeling slightly irritated, but grudgingly accept.
Monday 19th, nothing turns up. Notice that evening that there's a voicemail message on my phone. What TNT do in these situations apparently is to call the customer before sending the goods out, and if the customer isn't waiting by the phone, they don't send the goods. No one told me to expect a phone call. Call them the next day (tues 20th) to rearrange delivery for Wed 21st in the morning. Nothing happens. Call them, they say they tried to call me again that day (untrue, or at least no message this time), but that I should get it the next day.
Call them again on Thursday after nothing turns up. No one seems to know where the package is. Speak to a different person each time, get passed around, wait on hold for ages, eventually told to wait for a phonecall from customer service. No call. Call Apple, they say they'll "put in a request" to TNT, but I'm unlikely to get my computer till Monday 26th, but they'd call me the next day (today) and let me know what's happening. Totally unapologetic, and so far, at 2.30pm, no call. If I get the thing on Monday, it'll be with a sense of weary relief, rather than the giddy excitement I was feeling a week before.
To recap:
3 Jun - Ordered
10 Jun - Shipped from Suzhou
13 Jun - Arrived in UK
26 Jun - Delivered?
So, two questions:
1. Who would people recommend I complain to? Apple presumably, or maybe them and TNT. Can anyone suggest a good email address, someone as high up as possible ideally.
2. Is this eating into my warranty and my 90 days of free tech support?
Thanks for reading, and, yes, TNT are spectacularly, monumentally useless and Apple don't seem particularly bothered about it.
