There's an app in the Utilities folder, within your Applications folder, called Activity Monitor. It's the Mac equivalent of Task Manager. :)

Or if you want to be a little more cool to impress the ladies you can go open the terminal and enter the command 'top'.

Warning : Not for beginners like mad jew though.

Hey!

Okay, that's a fair call. :D

Oh, I forgot to mention that Activity Monitor will show you My Processes by default (processes owned by the user) but there's a drop down list from which you can change it to All Processes.

Also, although you can force quit apps from Activity Monitor's processes page, a quicker way to force a frozen app to quit can be reached through COMMAND-OPTION-ESCAPE where COMMAND is the button with a little Apple logo thingy on it.

;).

Nice one - I was trying to remember COMMAND-OPTION-ESCAPE. Managed to hit COMMAND-OPTION-EJECT instead and put my computer to sleep :p.

you can go open the terminal and enter the command 'top'.

top -u -s3

would be better.. to sort by processes sucking the most CPU, and only polling every 3 seconds.

You can add a Ctrl+Alt+Del like function using Escape Pod (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/freebies/) by Ambrosia Soft.

Escape Pod (http://www.ambrosiasw.com/utilities/freebies/) allows one to terminate the foremost application with [Control]+[Alt]+[Del].
Good for games or poorly written media players that don't let you get back to the GUI easily.

A summary of key board commands with in OS X
[Command]+[W] close window
[Option]+[Command]+[W] close all windows
[Option]+[Command]+[esc] Force Quit (http://www.apple.com/pro/tips/forcequit.html).
[Option]+[Comand]+[Power] force kill power.
