View Full Version : Why no MacBooks?

Did you awake to have your dreams crushed? Did the rumor sites get it wrong again? No, that's impossible! Here's why there is no MacBook enroute to your doorstep today. You can blame the MBP 17in. It is hogging a very valuable commodity - the 8x super drive with Dual layer support. Until that little piece of technology becomes abundant enough to upgrade the existing MBP 15in, you ain't gonna see a MacBook. Why? Certainly not because it uses the same drive. It doesn't. But it does use the same 8x Superdrive found in the current 12in Powerbook. The problem is there is no way Apple is going to put out a consumer portable that burns DVDs better and quicker than it's flagship design. For that matter, ever since the 867 mhz 12in PB/900 mhz iBook catastrophe, it'll never put Superior specs on a consumer portable again.

Don't worry macmen, the wafer-thin Superdrive in the 17in MBP is ramping up and should be more widely available in 1 to 2 weeks. First, you will see a revision to the MBpro line, then a week later you'll see the giant chiclet we so lust over.

At least our credit card statements will be light for another month.

Awww, cmon, but it's so much fun...:cool: . Besides, if they're miserable over the fact that a new laptop hasn't been released, they're asking for a little stick jabbing...

No, but I know Steve hates us.

At least our credit card statements will be light for another month. To help with my next computer purchase, I have increased my paycheck tax deductions to make sure I manage to save something by years end.

what an annoying and pointless response to post on a macrumor site. :rolleyes: If you don't want to hear people speculating/hoping/thinking/waiting for new macs then this probably isn't the site for you.

And the current ibook G4 is now 10 months old. The 12" powerbook is 15 months old. That's not good.

I it is not that I do not want to hear about the speculating/hoping/thinking/waiting for a new product.
It is that we had too many rumors on this and it will need to be released when it is ready.
Apperaently it is not ready yet.
So I was just telling people to enjoy the current product.

I didn't have a question. I'm just saying, this site is all about macs, and in particular, rumors about macs. So you should expect to hear a lot of that around here.

yes, enjoy the G4 iBook while it's here. It was/is a truly awesome machine. It'll take a while for the same warm and fuzzies to evolve for the MB.

I would like to (and I am considering it) but I don't really need both a Power Mac G5 and a MacBook Pro- having one computer that fast is all I need (and then some). So, I was considering getting a portable computer that is faster than my iBook G4 and cheaper than a MBP. :)

But I could be persuaded..... :D

I had to have one, and come to find out the school I am transferring next year adds another one in the tuition, but at a serious discount:cool: . So by August I should have another one...:D
