Ok I am freaking out trying to decide what sound dock/speakers to get for my nano!!! There are so many options out there I really can't decide what the hell to do. I want something that sounds excellent (deep, powerful, loud, not distorted, are a few terms that come to mind), is reasonably priced, is portable, plugs into a socket, and won't fry my iPod. Any suggestions or input would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!

I'm a fan of the iM7s from Altec Lansing:

$179 from amazon, good deal too.

I recently bought a product called "iHome". I love it!!It has an alarm,it works for all the iPods, and it also plays your music with the speakers it has and it also charges your iPod while it is docked. It cost me $100 at Target.

I use an Onkyo TX-8211 stereo receiver and a generic, but decent, pair of Realistic (Radio Shack) bookshelf speakers from the 1980s. No iPod specific, but plug it into a dock and it sounds as good as almost anything within a reasonable price range.

those ipod speaker sets are such a joke. the quality isnt too impressive and the cost is the real killer. if you arent an audiophile, then just pick up a 40-80 buck 2.1 setup at best buy. if you wanna spend more then look at 4.1 and 5.1 options. at least if you bought regular speakers you can use them with other things besides an ipod

I partially agree; most "all-in-one" options sound noticeably worse than cheaper 2.1 speaker sets, but portability was a must here. I recommend JBL Creature Speakers if you want the best sound quality under $100, but they aren't very portable. The Altec Lansing inMotion 7 (the "tube") sounds pretty good, but I haven't heard one being played loudly so I'm not sure if there are distortion problems. Apple's iPod HiFi is very deep, loud, and doesn't distort much at all (it better not, at $350!). I was in Target a couple days ago checking out the HiFi on demo there, and the guy working electronics looked around to make sure it was clear, grinned, and jacked the volume up most of the way. It is a great way to go if you aren't on a budget.
