yes i have restarted, yes i have done the frontrow thing but that was about 6 months ago, and i have done this on my other mac and the spotlight logo is still there. and on my ibook it was there until a couple of days ago😕

I'd actually like to know how you did this because I am TRYING to get rid of the Spotlight icon from my menu bar. QuickSilver has long taken care of any use for Spotlight for me.

And on a 12" iBook, Menu Bar real estate is pretty valuable to me.

My spotlight is showing up but it is not working. No matter what I put in it says no results found.

Any ideas?

Mine did that a while ago, but it's working now. Have you tried restarting?

Apparently, in your case, you'll be rewarded for pirating FrontRow. 😱 😉 😀

startup volume/system/library/launchagents/com.apple.Spotlight.plist
get (extendede) info for this file.
permissions should be: system read and write; the rest only read.
fuddling with this will cause problems.
b.t.w: opening in property list editor gives the opportunity to "keep it alive" or not, i.e. to activate the program or not.
working in the terminal: man mdutil, etc.
hope this helps
