So when I try to download something on Safari, any sort of file, it does the "Preparing to download..." thing and then it says it "Cannot create file."😕

Please excuse me, I'm new to the mac world. I have only recently received my Macbook Pro.

Anyway, I tried restarting and it didn't work. I'm not sure how to repair permissions though.😱

I've tried all different things...

.wmv, .xls, .gif, .jpg, every file I've tried doesn't work.

To repair permissions, open the program Disk Utility, located in the Utilities folder. Click on the hard disk on the left (probably called "Macintosh HD") and then click on the "repair permissions" button. Wait until done. That's it. 🙂

Have you installed any third party download management apps recently? Apps like Speed Download have to be properly uninstalled before Safari will download anything again.

Also, does downloading work in other apps/browsers? 🙂

No download mangement apps.

I'd try to download another browser... but I can't download anything with safari.😱

Okay, so sites are showing up fine but downloads aren't working? Maybe look for a file named com.apple.Safari.plist, drag it to the Desktop whilst Safari is closed, and then reopen Safari. 🙂

It says I don't have sufficent permissions.

So I was on the Apple support forum and someone said to try and download the files to a different location - which worked. But I don't see why I can't download it to my dekstop.

Check the Desktop in your Home folder to make sure it has the right permissions. Do this through the Get Info function in the File menu. 🙂
