okay, so here is the scenario:

my parents are on the local volunteer fire department (my dad is chief, my mom is deputy chief).

at the department, they currently use a compaq desktop - it doesn't function the way they would like it to...you probably get the idea.

it would be advantageous for them to get a mac. they could use iphoto to keep albums of different fire scenes they've been to (since they're getting a digital camera to take on fire calls). they could actually use the computer...instead of it using them.

the only sticking point is that they need a sort of database system to enter their reports into the computer. it has to be compliant with the government's standards for filing reports to them.

right now they're using the most popular program, firehouse, which doesnt have a mac version. if i could find an incident reporting program for the mac they would probably go for it, as their frustration level with PCs are at an all-time high. i have thought about virtual PC, but not sure if it will work well enough.

does anyone have any experience with this? help me out!

I actually have worked with "Firehouse Software" and some representivites of the company that makes the software. I would be hesistant about using it on VPC because it requires alot of background proccess to be running if you plan on using it to it's full potential. I bet if you give them a call about the potential of doing this they would be very helpful.
