Description:: For those looking for a free, open-source video editing package to try, Jahshaka has just hit version 2.0 RC3. It's no Final Cut, but it certainly looks interesting.

Anybody used this...? I'm tempted. Can't afford to get FCP, and iMovie is often too basic for my needs.

Probably is... but it's certainly better than nothing. And it seems like they have a lot of stuff planned as they continue forward. Certainly exciting to see an open-source project coming along and producing something viable though, because this is a segment that has never really had a viable free "option" before.

I wouldnt trust my digital video to an opensource not completed project.
I need results, not bugs.

It's not for professionals, it's for hobbyists. This lowers the cost of entry for, say, high school students who might be interested in video editing but not have the money for something like Premiere or Final Cut. Besides, I don't see how having options is a bad thing.
Besides, that's an awfully snotty attitude about open-source software. Like Final Cut doesn't have bugs?

I agree. I have had iMovie crash on me several times. Admittedly, I do thrash it about a lot - I'm not just making home movies - but it just shows that even 'proper' software is not perfect.

Yes it does. Of course, I thought that about Avid at first. I still think it about some things...
