It's actually a dice-y claim - as there were "organizers" before (sharp wizards)... but seeing as Apple/Sculley coined the term "PDA" - it's impossible for it to have existed prior to the Newton. :) And the Amstrad handheld may have been designed and released in betwee the Newton's announcement and release... though - the details of that aren't clear.
Some people may take offense to the "first GUI" - it may be more fitting to say "first GUI to market"...
and... they do ship internationally...

I am just happy as a clam about both the shirt and the mug... and I think the new logo is truly topshelf. Won't get much chance to wear the shirt around PC-users (office environment isn't QUITE that lax, even on casual day) but the mug will be on display next to "that God-forsaken Mac abomination" that I call a computer. This year's April fool's prank will be setting all the homepages to MacRumors.com... I am pretty sure I am the only one in the place that even knows what IEAK (Internet Explorer Administration Kit) is.. so I will be hearing howls of dissention about the PC dweebs inability to change their homepage for at least a few days.
Thanks, Arn, for supplying us users with the opportunity to show our support for this site.

i'm sorry but the macrumors logo is just too hideous to buy anything with that on it.

The subtitle is ripped from Apple's marketing. Gee how original. And AppleLinks.com is already selling dorky clocks and mugs with their redesigned (easily reproduceable) crap logo too.
Anything to make a buck I guess.
Whats next, Macs and Porn? I don't even want to imagine how the new mouse could be used, oops too late :D (Hey I suggested it so give me some props okay?)

Clearly it is... that's the whole point...
There will certainly be those who don't like our logo... for those, I'm sorry we don't have anything for you... yet (stay tuned)
I'd refer people to http://www.macrumors.com/contributor.php3 for why product sales are being offered. I don't want this to become a long discussion on the topic.... however, I will say... this site consumes far more money than it makes. It's easy to blame webmasters as "greedy bastards" just interested in "making a buck"... but the advertising/product push on Macrumors.com is being driven soley by a significant cost of a dedicated server pushing gigabytes of data a day.

Heck, as I stated on a seperate post here regarding fund raising possibilities, I've had so much fun here since I joined a week prior to Macworld that I'd send 10 bucks just for the value of the good times I've had.
But now, I can send a few more bucks and get what I think is a pretty cool mug while supporting a place that I have found myself visiting almost daily.
Next month, consider me a mug buyer!
(so arn; if I give ya a couple hundred do I get to choose a disembodied kewpie doll head or staring eyeball for *my* avatar?):p

Hell, this is what i call "thinking different".
Arn, Ignore sayer. For some reason he enjoys making a fool of himself, just look at what he put down for his location. Trying to be funny sayer???
He eats ****ing prozac for breakfast.
Anyway, if it ships to the uk then i might have to get a t-shirt.

So how has the first day or so been, sales wise? I don't want specific numbers, but have people actually pulled through (unlikely) or is everyone on this board just talk (likely)?
Do you think your financial troubles (in relation to macrumors) will be solved by the merchandise at this rate?

I really don't understand how anyone could bash the new logo. I'm certainly no one's idea of a graphic designer, but guess what! Neither are most of the rest of the human race. It's simple, it's interesting, it conveys a thought without beating you over the head.. I think it's very nice.
As for the "accuracy" of the claims on the shirt.. I think Arn described the one that I had difficulty with (the newton) perfectly, as "dicey". It's not patently false, so no one is going to come up with a book and smack you with it... but I wouldn't want my dinner to rely on my being able to prove the point, either.
Now, the mousepad I am still wavering on. The only computer I have a mouse on, as opposed to a trackball, uses an optical mouse, and I have had mixed results using a mousepad with optical mice. For $15 bucks to a good cause, though, I might have to spring for one just to see.
What I think they need to make next are those window cling stickers... so I can have a Mac Rumors one in the lower right corner of my rear window to match the Apple one in the lower left. Ok, feel free to tell me how pathetic I am now.

What I think they need next is a new site design. Sure, the logo is nice, but does not go with the rest of the stale looking page!I don't think the current design does the page justice.

works for me in OS X 10.1.3 under IE 5.1
arn
er... reminder to mug purchasers...
forward your mug puchase email-receipts to me along with your username... and get upgraded to demi-god status and see what's behind door number 1.

im waiting for the next revision. i never buy rev a models. besides im sure the current mugs are fast but i hear the the ones coming out at the next expo are way faster and will make all current mugs obsolete. the current form factor is a little dated as well, but i hear the iMug2 will be a futuristic spherical design and will incorporate pda features.

How about another t-shirt design... package it with the mugs (an XLT model perhaps)... 'I became a demi-god and all I got was this stinking mug'... maybe we should wash the mugs before using them, to remove the stink :D.
Waiting for mine to arrive though. I have a rev. a TiBook, so I might as well get the rev. a iMug :D

I'm really glad to hear someone else bought a mug. I asked Arn if there was anything we could do, besides having already bought our's, to help him out and he simply stated "tell everyone u know."
I'm sure we could put in some info (& some cash?) to get something special created for the Demi-Gods or whatever group at all for that matter...
dukestreet....just email Arn with your mailing information and let him know u ordered it...he'll set u up...that's what I did anyway...:p

a stainless steel mug would be cool but i think arn is sort of limited by what the people at cafe express offer.
