I'm talking of the eartip replacements, like these (http://www.headphone.com/products/accessories/headphone-replacement-parts/etymotic-er-6i-triple-flange-tips.php). I read in this review (http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ipod/review/sony-mdr-ex81-earphones-ipod/) of Sony in-ear phones a comment by a user who said "I put the medium sized Sony ear pieces on the Apple ones and the sound was fantastic."

The Etymotic tips are different from the Sony ones, but from the photo, they look like they too could be attached to the regular Apple earphones that shipped with my iPod.

Has anyone tried this? Any advice? I could order the Etymotic replacement tips anyway since they're cheap, but I figured I might ask here first.

I know it will never be the same as buying proper noise-reducing Etymotic earphones! but I cannot afford those yet, so I was wondering if attaching the silicone flange tips to my current earphones could be a decent enough temporary substitute.

Also, I already have a pair of the cheap Etymotic isolating earplugs - not for music, just the plugs to protect hearing in noisy enviroments - and the flanges look the same as those for their earphone models, except they have a little cilynder sticking out so I cannot adapt those to fit over regular Apple earphones unless I attempted cutting the bit sticking out, and I don't want to do that, as I do use them a lot as earplugs (and they are rather comfortable).

Thanks for any suggestions in advance :)
