I say no.
I've seen them for years, they come and go and come back again... but what do we have?
Nothing, we have a MP3 player that is IT. I don't want to hear another one of these rumors intill I have a picture in front of me with arns best sources saying 'hell yes it is coming'.
The are just very annoying to hear them now.

i'm willing to bet they had several models designed and at least one working prototype tablet. apple designs so much stuff that never makes it to retail, i would bet they have had tablets for a couple of years now.
they'll never get released, but probably kept in development until the tablet craze is over... i give it another 20 minutes or so...

I'm guessing Apple will release a tablet within the next two years.

I dreamt of one last night.
It's not that I want one or would ever think I could find a practical use for one, it's just that when I saw one I couldn't believe my eyes, I got really annoyed and all Mac obsesive about it. I can't even picture it that well in my head, I just knew it was a mac and I wanted that guys toy all for myself.
sorry for being pointless and an air head but I wake up, logon and what do you know, a tablet discussion.
weird.

I've said it before (and, yup... I'll say it again): Apple can build a tablet, and chances are excellent that I'll buy it. But if it ain't drop-proof, then forget it.

why are we bothering to still talk about tablet rumors when we know they are not true and will not even possibly be release for a while if they ever are released?

...because we're over-stimulated Americans, bloated with materialistic lust and a sick need to buy more ***** that we really don't need.
How's that?

all those tablet rumors came out in full force when microsoft released there tablet pcs. people probably just wished that apple had a counter attack for them. personally i would not buy a tablet pc, would never use its tablet functions or pay the high price that they would for sure be.

I think that an Apple tablet would be neat, but I would doubt that I would buy one, because they would probably be expensive. Maybe in a few years Apple will come out with one.

I'm sure apple will release something tablet-esque soon, I brought out inkwell for something and I doubt it was meant for just third-party hardware. My bet would be a new laptop with a handwriting recog screen.

Yeah, they've got prototypes, but whether there's any chance of it seeing the light of day in the next 18months is anyone's guess.

I think it could happen, and they should aim at a price point at the bottom of their line. Give it a low wattage fast G3, firewire, USB, airport, bluetooth built it. Sell bluetooth keyboards and mice for it for those that want it, give it a 40 gig hard disk at least, about the size of a 12 inch ibook screen. If you buy a mouse and keyboard, it costs more than a comparable iBook. The big cost is the touchscreen.
Or they could simply give an iBook a touch screen and a removeable or able to be disabled keyboard that can be folded back completely.
But the Wintel world is doing this as Net computers already.. a touch screen for 300 bucks or so with wireless access to your desktop computer in the other room. I think that is feasible as well, but should be more independant to make a killer product for the educational market. I don't think the remote wireless touch screens are selling that well for the wintel world yet, but apple could do it better.

I think apple still belives that a laptop with a keyboard is more useful than a tablet. I could apple releasing a super-mini laptop - 10" screen with no optical drive. That will be more useful than a tablet pc.

i think that these tablet rumors will prove themselves to be true
tomorrow, in the form of a new Newton.... I wish. Well, i really dont think these tablets will appear, although i would be the happiest person in the world if they did.

Why is everyone so certain something is going to happen TOMORROW?

I'll rephrase my previous answer:
...because we're over-stimulated Americans, bloated with materialistic lust and a sick need to buy more ***** that we really don't need. And we want it now, or at least tomorrow...
How's that?
