Sorry to say this ,
But the animated typewriter was not created by medea.
that animation has been on the web for serval years and it is a larger animation
that show what is being typed out my best friend that has passed away now created
that animation ....and this is just a cut down of the orig one. is this suppose to be
creations from yourself or others??? sorry to interfere.:(

It should be original - but its been a while since the contest was run, so there's not much we can do now.

Do you have a link?

In honor of the one millionth post on MacRumors, there was an avatar contest (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=1009000&postcount=1). medea won the animated category with a typewriter avatar. The original poster in this thread is claiming that the animation was lifted from a different animation created by his late friend.

There wasn't in the contest any rule stating that the avatars had to be original work, but there are copyright issues that are routinely ignored in situations like this...not that I think any harm is being done in the use of said images in avatars.

Ok Thanks but Lost43 if you are going to make such claims at least produce some evidence in your favour.

woah woah woah. I know exactly what the source of my avatar is so I'd like to know what larger animation you are talking about. I'd like to see it.

I have to be honest. I have always loved your avatar. It got me to thinking about how it was done, and how I could use the technique in a short film. Of course, the effect is pointless with out a story. But I digress.

The burden of proof lies with the accuser.

I do have to say, that I am attached to my avatar. I would hate to have it attacked.

still waiting.....

this person shows up and makes on post which just happens to be an attack on me. I must of pissed someone off on the forums a few years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if Lost43 also goes by some other name on the forums.

Well I have a feeling that since it is not possible for this person to produce evidence to their silly claim they will most likely never post again. It's a shame though, I really wanted to hear more.

Oh wow I think I found it.

I've been patiently waiting nearly two weeks for this thread to get a move on.

What I want to know, Medea, is how are you able to use a 32kb avatar when the limit is 19kb. Is it special dispensation for winning the contest?

medea
Jun 15, 2006, 11:48 AM
Well he hasn't logged on since 5-21 so I would say he is gone. Of course it's highly possible that the pain of seeing his dead friends creation stolen was too much for him to handle and he promptly killed himself.
One can only hope.

Before this thread disappears, may I ask a question?

I haven't got access to a old-style typewriter and have been trying to work out what word is being typed out in your avatar (and you are so deserving of winning that competition - it's brilliant).

It looks like RUBA to me. Is that right and is there any significance in the letter sequence?

Cheers! :)

But the S is never pressed...? Or is it the A that is "defect" and only really seen when pressed...?

I took typing in school. When you're in your 30's some kid will probably tell you how much typing had to have sucked because now it's all voice activated!

Actually, before computers, most homework had to be hand-written in neat cursive. I'm sure there was a short span when typewritten was okay, but even when I was a kid (early '80s,) typewritten was an exception, not the standard. I learned first on a manual (although not as ancient as the one in medea's avatar,) with lovely Wite-Out for mistakes, then an electric which had (man, was this amazing technology,) a backspace/erase button! (It has a white ribbon that, when you pressed backspace, it would back up, and type your last letter again, only with the white ribbon instead of the black ribbon.) Finally, in 1986, my dad bought an early PC, allowing me to move to word processing. I remember going to my dad's work to print out a paper, because he had a daisywheel printer that had black and red ribbons, allowing me to emphasize certain words. As opposed to our ultra-low-quality dot matrix printer.

Last time I used a typewriter was in 2003 during my senior year at high school. I took ROP TV/Film and to do the labels for the VHS tapes we had to type them out.

Yeah I'm ancient. It wasn't too long before that when I was making mixed tapes to listen to while in the car.

Sorry, I asumed Ed H meant the guy on the other forum could be the dead friend of the original poster who (allegedy) created the animation. I could be getting mixed up though. This thread has that effect, I find. :D

Now I'm hopelessly confused, too... :o

I think i meant that if there are others using it then how could it be original in the first place? I've seen the avatar with the stratics link person for a while before this contest so stealing it from this site is probably out of the question. Maybe I'm confused which is totally possible.
