Hi guys,

So I broke down at the AppleStore and purchased a new MacBook, which I told myself not to do, but I did anyway, and now I'm trying to get an idea as to how much I can get for my previous PowerBook. I can't supply any pictures until I fix my digicam, but it's in good shape with the exception of the battery latch sometimes clicking out of place. It has an 867MHz G4 processor, 512MB RAM, 60GB 5400RPM HD, Airport card, and Tiger + iLife '06.

Can anyone offer me some rough estimates on how much it's worth?

Cheers,
Bill

Just a quick suggestion: why not take pictures of your PowerBook with the MacBook's built-in iSight? :D

Still got to be quite a bit. I mean, I'm going to sell this oooooold 400mhz Tibook I'm on in a week or two for a macbook. And this thing fetches 300-450 on eBay.

I imagine for yours, somewhere closer to $700-$800

Just glancing at ebay it looks like the $700 range is about right.

I was thinking $650.
Others are going to say more, I'm always a low baller! :)

Some would argue that's not a lowball offer.

Sell your G4 notebok fast.

Notice that Apple is selling refurb MBP at $400 discount. That's roughtly 20%. Assume that shortly Apple will have refurb Macbook at 20% discount for maybe $850 or $900. Not many people will pay $700 for a G4 notbook if the refurb'd Core Dual is only $150 more.

I'd say you have a 4 month window. Apple seems to be updating the Intel notebooks fast

yeah but i guess it is what you're looking for, my iBook's specs are WAY better than the TiBook's and you're basically buying that for looks and better screen real estate... and my iBook is in REALLY good condition...

iBooks with specs less than mine are going for $800-$900 on ebay right now...

As I mentioned, aside from that minor battery latch issue, it's in great shape (in fact, AppleCare recently replaced the entire top--screen included--and I opted for a new battery). Also, forgot to mention in the first post, but it will come preloaded with Office 2004 as well Tiger and iLife '06.

I was really hoping for ~$750, but I think $700 is fair. I would be willing to cover shipping.

Cheers,
Bill

PS. iSight worked like a charm!

I'd be surprised if the refurb Macbooks go much below $950 at first. However, it would be nice if they were closer to $850. :):)

If I'm intruding on this thread let me know, but I have a 667mhz TiBook and would like to know what is a good price as well. It's 512mb ram, Combo drive (CD-RW/DVD-ROM) 133mhz bus, 50gb hard drive, with quite a bit of silver paint gone from the exterior around the keyboard.

$700 seems about right if this is a 15". 12" seem to be going for $4 - 500. Actually, it's amazing - and scary! - how much prices have dropped since the introduction of the intel processors. It's not unthinkable to pick-up a 15" 1.67 PB for $1000 or a little less now.. Wow!

SC68Cal - probably better for you to start your own thread. Still, those seem to be fetching between 3- 500 on ebay right now.

Ok, let's say you are right. the refurm macbook is $950. So what would someone pay for a G4 notebook. Would you pay $850 for a G4? Likey not. How about $750? Maybe but only if theG4 still had a warenty and looked new.

This is what happens in the fast paced world of Intel powered conputers. The new ones, just a year later as so much better and they cost less so used PCs just get chucked into landfills. Just last Saturday I took my pickup truck with some PC junk to a computer recycler and their staff was nice enough to unload it for me and I got a really nice "thank you" card in exchange for about 200 pounds of PC and Sun computers.

Apple computers were a special case and held thier value ony because Apple was unable to upgrade them for so long. So the two year old Apple notebook was almost as good as a new Apple notebook. But now that Apple is abile to upgrade quickly the old computers will less like the new ones and the price will be less like the new ones too.

Wait until the next rev MBP comes out with the Intel 64-bit "Core 2 Dual" and see what hapens to the price of a used rev "A" MBP. This could happen by the end of 2006. We shall see.

that's nothing; someone on this forum offered me $450 for the ibook in my sig several months before the macbook came out!

IMO you'd have to be insane to pay anything more than about $500-600 for the OP's tibook. It's over 3 years old and only about 2/3 the speed of a last gen ibook G4. Yes it was once a professional laptop, but it's waaaaay outdated now.

That said, some sucker will pay $700 or $750, mark my words.
