we had this poll a few months back i think. I had about 700 or so then and now i have about 1200, adding and subtracting all the time. I add all my cds but as i listen to them i delete ones that i always skip, i'm not one who needs every song on my computer. So i could have about 5000 but if i only listen to a quarter of those songs whats the point.

Just some classical stuff from old CD's -- under 100, but they're long pieces.

I've got 380 songs in iTunes, but I still have some CDs that I still haven't put on there yet.

I've got about 30. Space is limited on my clamshell iBook. I try and rotate a variety on it to keep it fresh and small.

At the moment 857. I've got most of my non-classical CDs on my computer, and plan to put my classical CDs there once I make decisions on what tracks to burn as one and which ones to keep separate. I anticipate hitting that magical 1000 mark very soon - whee!

I'm also terrible about buying CDs. I have a huge list of music that I want to purchase, and should probably start slowly working that. Maybe a CD a month or something. I'm hoping for an ipod price drop so that I can afford the 10 gb model, and aspire to fill up all that space. Or maybe even the 20 gb if they price drops are drastic...

*drool* ;)

I've been buying CDs since 1984, and have almost 13000 tracks in iTunes. I have no problem believing that some people have bought more CDs than I have.

DJs would have a very large collection. And I can see where having them all online would help in making custom mix CDs for parties they're hired for.

And yes, what I have is over a months music if I listened continuously. Moods change, so does the music you want to listen to.

Oh, and I have more music on vinyl records (remember those?) and pre-recorded cassettes that I don't have on CD.

30GB of a secondary 60GB drive allocated to MP3s... about 2/3s full right now.

No particular reason why it should be that big other than I went on a rampage a while back archiving all my CDs as well as my brother's CD collection...

I've recently been redoing the ones I listen to frequently at 192 kbs which drops the count but keeps the storage needs up.

And yes, I did my fair share of napstering of groups I never really had exposure to and as a result, have gone out and *rented* many of the CDs to get a nice clean rip... yes, in Japan, CD rental is VERY much alive and kicking! In fact, you will racks of MDs and CD-Rs next to the cash register when you check your goods out.

Cheers.

In the United States, many libraries have CDs you can borrow, as well as DVDs and video tapes and such.

Although my above mentioned MP3 collection is all from my own CDs... I haven't borrowed CDs from the library in a long time.

right now i wish i had the money to drop on a much larger hard drive...my secondary MP3 ONLY drive is nearing capacity...

itunes stats:
7374 songs, 18.9 days, 30.37 GB

only about 7 gigs left till i need some money

i pretty much went crazy borrowing peoples' cds when i arrived at college...he he he...but that's ok cause i listen to music constantly...and it's really ok cause i'm not using crappy computer speakers, i'm using my stereo system which has a much better quality sound than anything but klipsch thx 5.1

You can set the iPod to have its contents updated manually.

If you do that, you do everything manually - decide what songs you want on the iPod, make playlists for the iPod (although I believe you can drag a playlist over as well). And you have to remember to unmount the iPod before disconeecting it from the system. This is all done in iTunes. Unmounting the iPod can be done from iTunes or by doing the normal drag to eject(trash).

This is what you need to do when you have more MP3s than will fit on your iPod.

I have 811 songs in itunes taking up 3.39gigs of music. i had over 900 at on epoitn but a had to delete alot of them, because my imac's gigantic 6gig hd was out of memory. thats whe i went up to about a gig of HD space. now i am down to 168.2megs of hard disc space. thats with the majority of programs/files/pictures that i rarly use/look at, are compressed into .sit to save memory

i'd be careful how low you let your hard drive get on free space.

i would at least leave a gig free for os x to use for memory and such.

go buy an external fw hd. they are fairly inexpensive and will save you from a problem later on concerning space.

I have none, not using iTunes. Steve hasn't convinced me to use Mac OS X yet!

Where do you people with like 10000 songs get it all? I want to become a DJ, but I don't think that 412 songs will do it.
Also, what programs do DJs use, because you sure can't mix with iTunes.

You don't have to be running X to run iTunes. It runs fine in 9 for me anyway.

Where? Well, at places like Tower Records, J and R Music World, Amazon.com, buy.com, hmv.ca, etc... Not to mention directly from the groups if they sell directly.

I'm sure you get the idea.

I only have about 400. My iBook has a 20 GB drive so I don't want to use it all on music. I do want to get an iPod though, and I have friends with huuuuuuuge mp3 collections that I could tap into.
