do you feel the ram boost?
yes, i do, only because i was using about 10GB RAM constantly but still had 4GB of physical RAM (my swap memory was making up for the lack of real memory) - so i had MASSIVE wait times for even opening up new tabs in safari sometimes, 5 min waits to open these were not uncommon. now everything is instant. :)
mine:
Early 2008 17'' MBP. Upgraded HD to 500gb 7.200, next step is probably another 2gb RAM.
happy 2000th post! awsome computer.

Was there a software update that let it accept 8GB without an issue, or did you have to do something? I am just curious, I don't really need that much memory, just for future reference.
No, I didn't have to do anything special. I was surprised it worked because everything I read said it'd only work with up to 6GB. And, in the case it would work, once you used over 4/6 GB it would lock up but that hasn't been the case.
Current uptime is 7 days and the only reason for the reboot is because of a system update. And it's regularly using more than 4gb at any given time.
The extra ram makes a huge difference if you're doing anything with virtual machine(s)

did you do some tests about 12GB (Triple Channel) VS 14GB (Dual Channel)?
I needed more memory to support multiple concurrently running virtual machines and I had the original 1GB sticks sitting in a closet. 14GB of dual channel is better than 12GB of triple channel and paging memory to disk.

Thus more friendly by taking away Software Update from this pristine original window in the new. From what Lion brings there are still some things I'm not liking ... maybe its the change and I'm old when it comes to Mac's??
I have this feeling that Bertrand Serlet did not have a hand in this OS development; but more as an advisor.
