...what if the whole virtual colsole thing on the Wii works like how Google works. downloading a game is free to the consumer but everytime someone does it, Nintendo gets paid for it. (it's free to do a Google searrch but Google get's about 10-12 cents everytime u do one. i think it's the same thing for Google video downloads.)

Find me someone willing to pay Nintendo for me so I can play the games in the virtual console.

That only works if what you download will make you more likely to use money on something else.

You'd have to accept games filled with commercials and ads for that to work. Well, these days it seems that you're going to have to accept that anyway, so, yeah, I guess your idea is a good one.

nope, i'll gladly pay a few bucks to avoid annoying adverts. If a game wasn't worth even that much to you, then why download it at all? Same thing with iTunes.

Its not like they arent doing it in other games right now. I would definitely hate having ads in my face during a game, but they are in some games already. I like the idea of getting games for free, but you also have to way the expense (potentially ads in this case) of doing it.

I fail to see who would get paid as well.

Google is getting ad revenue from people paying them to be top ranking and to show up in the sides. Something similar really isn't very applicable to the virtual console as the topics would be completely limited (games only, Nintendo games only).

I just don't see how it would work. Paying for each game you want seems much better since no company is going to pay Nintendo enough to see their in-console ads with such a limited scope.

Yes, but Iwata hates in-game ads, and I've never seen ads in Nintendo games.

Now, honestly, I wouldn't mind pre-game ads if the games were free. For example, I'd sit through a 30 second commercial if I could get a SNES game for free. Just as long as they don't put advertising IN the game.

Honestly I'd rather shell out a small fee to play the games ad-free than have ad's all over virtual console so I can download them for free...

And even more honestly, I'll just stick to emulation for SNES, NES, Genesis and so on...I don't need to pay for that. (Before anyone even says it, yes I do own the actual games for each rom I have...) I'll probably use the virual console for N64 games seeing that there is no decent N64 emulation on the Mac.

I'd guess they could do this by bundling some free downloads with new games. So you pay for a new game, and get bonus VC games for free as well, with the publisher paying Ninty for the games you download.

That's a good point. I don't guess I'd mind that too much, just as long as they weren't in the games (like in the Rainbox Six Lockdown Demo).

Imagine context sensitive ads in games like GTA (esp. the hot coffee content). That'd be halarious: ads for Viagra!

I think this will be a likely scenario, either that or they include the old game on the actual disk and allow you to copy the game to the internal memory.

So if someone spammed you with Viagra ads on your email you would find it funny? Because to me, its extremely annoying. Ads in games wouldn't work. I'll happily pay the money for the game I want without having to watch an ad or have subliminal messages planted in the game.
