I have a Black MacBook (80gb HD), and after I installed everything I have a measly 28gb left, now I will probably fill that up rather fast, with podcasts, etc.
Here's my proposal, those with a MacBook with say a 100gb or 120gb HD that really realize they don't need all that space, I'll trade drives with you (and add some cash of course).
So if anybody is interested, post the specs of your HD, and we'll try and work something out!

Why dont you just buy another drive and toss the drive that is currently in your macbook into an external enclosure?

I don't have a ton of money to buy a new drive, so I want to do my drive + some cash, which would be cheaper than buying a whole new drive.

maybe you should just sell your old one, then with the cash you already have, buy a new one :D

I paid for the MacBook 100% myself, and had no extra money for a bigger HD, so that's why I was stuck with the 80.
Folks wouldn't lend me the money anyways ;).

Well I don't know quite what you have on there - but I have everyting I have on my PM in my PB with 30GB leftover...

Um, what are you going to do with the stuff on your hard drive while you wait for the new one? How are you going to transfer stuff from your drive to the new one...if you're using an external drive, what's the point of this thread? Then again, it is another "amacgenius" Marketplace thread...so who knows. ;)

You can remove a bunch of printer drivers, fonts, languages to save probably 4gigs. Garageband and iDVD take up 7gigs, so if you don't use those two programs, I would remove them and all their support files. Make sure you have removed the Microsoft Office Test drive, also, you can remove Nanosaur or any other pre-installed games and demo programs, I bet that will free up another 5gigs.
That is a much quicker (and cheaper) solution to gain more useable space.

Sorry for indulging the tangent, Disk Inventory X is really good for tracking down files that are taking up space.
@amacgenius: remember it's SATA, so you can't throw it into most enclosures.

Run Monolingual (available on www.versiontracker.com). This will remove all redundant language files, which will free up around 3GB, and if you also select the option, it can remove the PowerPC code from the Universal Binaries.
In total, it could get you 10GB back.

Maybe you should have gone for the white? and put the 200 to a bigger drive;)
But i would think you would find someone to trade with because also you would need to trade is the easly removed drive. In the mean time use those Apps to free up some space

I removed all the preinstalled stuff I don't use, I'm gonna try some of those apps for language files.

Why not just custom order a white MB to begin with? Could have saved yourself a bunch of hassle and money. ;)

Because I will never order a Mac online again, not after Apple charged me 5 times for a 20-inch G5 iMac back in June, no sir.
Plus, if I get it from the retail store I can walk out same day with it.
Btw, used Monolingual, and that freed up a gig, whoo hoo .

Stupid question perhaps - but why do you need more than 27Gb free? You have a 160Gb external drive right? So why so much excess needed on the internal? Hell I have a PB with a 40Gb HD and it's only had 5Gb left for about a year now...I manage ok!

Maybe this seems like a dumb solution, but why don't you just go buy a spindle of dvdr's and then when you get too many podcasts burn them on a dvd, and their right there. I mean are you really going to need all of your videocasts with you all of the time, especially when it seems like a majority of them are already on your website. I mean I understand not being able to afford the external drive, but just keep the dvd's around. I think people are too focused on having a huge hard drive when its plenty simple to burn a disc these days. Maybe you don't need all of the programs you installed? I really can't imagine what apps are taking up ALL that space.
Also like that irrational fear of ordering something online and being charged a few times, thats just as likely in the store, I would even bet they use the same system to process payments. Having it now, well thats impatience. I used to have a real bad case of that, then I got older. I haven't had my mac for a month and I'm still (surprisingly) alive

I don't have any DVD-R's and I'd have to go like 20 mins away to get them and no car to go in, also, the video casts I'm talking about are through iTunes not the vids I put on my site, those arn't on my hardrive.
It may be impatient, but when you need a computer for school, you can't wait 3-5 days for it to leave then 2-3 for it to get to you.

Dominated is not the word I would use. He was basically a kid who couldn't follow the rules despite being warned time and time again. Read the Marketplace rules; he violated them all, many times.

No offense meant or anything, but I mean, 28GB is a lot to have free, especially considering you already have a 160GB external. Also, I can understand not having a computer for school and how that would be a detriment, but then why not just purchase the machine before you sell your old one? Or better yet, keep your older machine longer :P

Because I was going to offer a partial trade, which would have been valued at over $200.
I've started using my external for stuff (although it's a bit slow), so this can be closed now, if I need one eventually I'll buy it myself .
