I'm looking into getting an external monitor for college to use in conjunction with a MB. 17" would be on the lower end and 20" would be the upper limit.

As for a budget, preferably under $350, but i might be persuaded up to $450. I'm definately willing to get a refurbished one if it'll get me within price range.

Other than that, I'm looking for suggestions on where to look, where to buy, what to look for, and what to get.

Widescreen v. not?

What's the deal with contrast ratios?

Thanks

Hi Jurgen

There have been a number of discussions about this recently. Do a search for 2405 (Dell 24" widescreen) or 2007 (the new dell 20" ws) or 2005 (the old Dell 20" ws). I'm not saying that you should buy a Dell (though I just did!), but a number of different recommendations came up in those threads.

Also, I think there was a thread about the apple acd vs. Dell.

There are plenty of good monitors in your pricerange.

Good luck,

yoji

I recently purchased this monitor. Its fast, wide screen, and the color is good, right in your price range.

I wouldn't buy a non widescreen. I back the Dells, they look the second best to apples IMO and have good stats.
