Demon Hunter

Yes, there is such a genre. I immediately fell in love. Worship and hard rock, what a dichotomy.
Demon Hunter is my favorite, followed closely by Staple... also Norma Jean and Becoming the Archetype, two new bands for me. I haven't quite figured out ZAO yet. Half the fun is looking for the tell-tale Christian signs.
Any Hunters/Christian headbangers here? What's your favorite band and song?

Christian Metal? Isn't that an oxymoron? like jumbo shrimp? :p
lol ok I'm kidding, my roommate actually listens to Christian Rock and some of it's pretty good, it's a little preachy for my taste at times, but the players have good chops I gotta say. Day of Fire certainly aint too shabby.
Of course...I'd still rather listen to Nine Inch Nails & Black Sabbath

White Metal is okay, I guess. Never really got into it.
I'm more of a Fear Factory/KMFDM political-industrial kind of guy.

Not so much Heavy, there's a great Rock Band from Pakistan called Junoon. NY Times called them the U2 of Pakistan.
I've seen them a couple of times, mostly at MIT in Boston.

I like Demon Hunter, even if they are of the nü metal genre. I've listened to a lot of Christian metal and hardcore, and while most of the bands I really like are secular, there are some Christian bands I could recommend.
As I Lay Dying (http://www.asilaydying.com/), which is really more metalcore, but sounds good.
Divinefire (http://www.divinefire.net/), well-known for their fast-paced Scandinavian sound.
Illuminandi (http://www.illuminandi.kdm.pl/menu.html), a vastly underrated Polish band.
Mortal Treason (http://www.flickerrecords.com/mortaltreason/indexnew.htm) often goes for a death metal sound. Don't be put off by their bandwidth-intensive site, and check out songs beyond the one they play in the background.
Narnia (http://www.narniaworld.com/start/default.asp) is a Swedish melodic metal band and is one of my favorites.
Finally, Virgin Black (http://www.virginblack.com/start.html) is an Australian gothic-doom band that uses classical music influences well. You have to click through a lot of logos to get to their site, but the music is well-worth listening to, if you enjoy goth metal like I do.
You can do some searching of your own at firestream.net/ (http://www.firestream.net/).

I fooled myself into thinking Creed was mainstream "Christian" rock - even though they never would admit it (sort of OT I guess since it's not really Metal). Anyways, then the truth about Scott Stapp came out - referring to himself as 'The King' while getting a blow job on tape with Kid Rock. Funny, he sang that there was only one King

They're on iTunes. Link (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=61314257&s=143441).

The heaviest I have ever gotten into is POD. But they probably fall under Hard Rock as opposed to Metal.

Living Sacrifice - Reject, Enthroned 98
Zao - Repressed, Skin Like Winter
StrongArm - Advent of a Miracle
Extol - Inferno
Point of Recognition - No One Gets Out Alive
Hopesfall - Shines Through, The Broken Heart of a Traitor
Blindside - Empty Box, Replay
Six Feet Deep - Purify
Get a copy of Spitfire's album The Dead Next Door.... my fav. album for grind/metal, their slideshow whiplash ep was pretty good, but their new stuff blows... sad but true.

I'm an ole skool fella who has always enjoyed the sounds of "Mortal"
When I heard "Demon Hunter" I was very pleased. The two bands have their differences and do not sound a like, however the both have that same extra something that makes them cooler then the rest.
Maybe it is because neither are ashamed to play with tracks and/or sample loops.

As I Lay Dying, Blindside, Project 86, and Demon Hunter are all really good hard Christian rock bands.
I also like some of the not-so-hard Christian rock, as well - Switchfoot, Bleach, Third Day, etc.

Stryper was and still is the most powerful band in heavy metal christian rock. They have a recent new cd which rocks. They still tour and do shows at churches and arenas. If they aren't the greatest heavy metal christian band, then why are we still talking about them and watching their shows 20 years later?

12 Stones is a pretty good Christian Rock band.
Building 429 is a bit harder than what most stations here in Atlanta would lead you to believe. They're not metal by any means, but still a good Christian Rock band. I saw them along with Casting Crowns. Can't beat free tickets.

I guess I'll show my age here, but Resurrection Band (Rez) from Chicago, Petra, which wasn't really a heavy metal band, but I loved to hear Greg X Volz hit those high notes. From the south (Atlanta) I really enjoyed Mylon Lefever and Broken Heart. Although I ocassionally listen to Christian Music (I'm still in full time ministry) my tastes have changed to Smooth Jazz most of the time, and back to my pre-Christian days, The Moody Blues, The Police, Saga, Asia and the 70's early 80's stuff.

There really isn't much if any preaching from these kind of bands. They simply happen to be christians in a band singing from their personal world view which is reflected in their liyrics like any other artist.
If by preaching you mean you don't like music which reflects a world view then you would have to not listen to music at all.
Of course, if you mean that you don't want to hear about God, but satan and murder is OK, then you probably want to stick to the secular arena.

I don't touch it with a 10 foot pole. I love metal, but not when preaching gets involved.
See, I dislike metal AND preaching, so I don't even think about touching period. Not that I hate it or the people who listen to it, it just isn't my thing. I listen to lots of techno, and many, many people dislike/do not understand it.
I guess the reason I don't like metal is that it is hard for me to listen to- I love nirvana, but not their early, grinding stuff; I just can't listen to it. It isn't too loud, just the combination of screaming and throat-bleeding vocals plus sludgeguitar and pounding, seizurific drums makes me edgy and irritable.
The religion part- I don't like it only because I am Jewish- I would hate jewish metal as well- but music and religion are two things I don't think should be mixed- like drinking and driving- fun on their own, but put them together and you get a terrible result.
I didn't mean to ***** on the thread, and feel free to respond to any of my points, I am not critisizing or making fun of you (you being the christian-metal-listeners of the thread); I respect your choice, but I just thought I would throw my own feelings out there.

I don't listen to Christian rock for its religious value, and I am not religious anymore for that matter either, but I know enough about Catholicism to say that it does deal a lot with evil... the story of the fallen angel, getting forgiven for sins, temptation etc. etc. If anything, in my opinion, catholicism is a method of controlling one's inner-evil, so how is Christian metal a contradiction?

...
I thought I as the only one who realized this. They're writing lyrics about what they know and playing music they enjoy. No different from Motley Crue or Black Sabbath.
Like anyone would know they were Christian, half these new bands growl through the lyrics when they're not getting drowned out by the double-bass anyway.
