View Full Version : Alright. I have had enough. It is really time to lower the avatar post count.

I really think you guys need to lower the post count(unless that is the forced limit by vBullitn) for an avatar. Avatars are just little pictures, and its not quite asy to spam with those. If they put on a pornographical picture, ban them.It is quite simple.

OK, so you've had enough. Well, that settles it then. I guess we'll see the avatar post count lowered as soon as arn finds out.

Of course, you're right. Arn and the others have been wrong and misguided all along. Thank you for showing us the way.

I think the post requirement should go up by 100 posts each time a comment like this is posted.

Besides, they're just little pictures. What's the big deal?

Your argument defeats itself.. "they're just little pictures", so why should the number be decreased rather than say.. increased? Your concrete argument is?

Oh.. because you want one. Earn it. Sans spamming.

Let's not be overly dramatic. No one said that.

But if you're going to put forth an agrument like yours.. be able to back it up with something.
Otherwise you're wasting our time and MR's database disk space.

MR has it's standards.

If you want to participate with Tar, you must meet them.

BTW, your comment above is probably not a good way to be a part of the group. But that's just me.

sorry. you make a good point. I just want to know why you have to have 500posts. It seems well-unnecessarry. If you tell me why, I maythink the other way

It reduces the bandwidth required to run the server and it reduces clutter, and most importantly that's the way the gods want it to be. Those should be good enough explanations.

Why? I have no idea.. That was the number set forth when the Forum was opened. I suspect the "high" number is good enough to weed out the suckers. Typically by 500 posts you've become part of the community (for better or for worse) and thereby you add to the overall "experience" that is MacRumors.

Basically:
If you are strictly here to get an Avatar, well move on, there's plenty of other sites that let you have an avatar right away.
There's a lot more to this forum than having an Avatar.
Contructively add to the community and before you know it, you'll have an avatar.

It also provides a way of recognizing somewhat established members and in a way a reward for contributing positively to the community. I'm sure we've been through this before...

We have been over this for a trillion times already, the rules are set its not gonna change and nobody else has worried about the limit. If this is the only thing you care about on this forum its time you start to find another forum.

I like it that the limit is so high, if I had my druthers, I'd be raising the limit. Its an easy way to see whose been around. Kind of a right of passage.

Quite simply the minimum post count is there to encourage you to let those who are active participants in the community have an identifiable mark. We've found with some trial/error that the 500 post mark is the sweet spot for that - it's high enough to keep people from unnoticeably spamming to reach it, and is low enough that if you really like participating you'll reach it without issue.

It's not going to change. Sorry you're miffed about it - and I'll agree, posting things like:
KILLL ME! JUST KILL ME! NO ONE LIKES ME! THEY ALL WANT ME OFF MR!
isn't a good way to make friends and influence people, even when it's in white type on a white background.

For one thing, by the time you reach 500 posts, you're less likely to ask questions which have been addressed many, many times before.

For another, by leaving it at 500 posts, we get to see who the troublemakers are before they get there. Were it not so hard to add to vBulletin, I'd be in favor of a time minimum as well for all the post-limited items. We see a lot of people spamming their way to the Marketplace, for example.

Third, we all had to do it (aside from a select few), so it's part of the initiation rites to the site. We'd change it, but then we'd need to get you drunk or spank you with paddles or something else we don't want to have to do.
