I have a powerbook G3 1999 Bronze 333mhz. I am running OSX. When I put in a DVD disk it doesen't automatically start and when I go open apple dvd player it won't open it because it says that I don't have the required hardware. I put the pc card in the front slot so I don't know what hardware I'm missing. Does anyone have any idea what it could be?

No I don't think I am. I just got this powerbook from my uncle so I'm not sure if I am or not. I'm new to Macs too. How can I tell if I am or not?

You can tell which version of OS X you have by going to the Apple menu (the icon of an apple in the top left corner of the screen) and clicking About This Mac.

Actually the question is what type of optical drive does the machine have? It might've been a cdrom or a cd-rw. In which case it won't play DVDs.

It has a DVD drive. But it just won't play it.

an even easier way i tell people isi have them tell me if the apple in the corner is blue or a rainbow. people seem to understand that a little bit better.

they are talking about which version of OS X (10.1 or 10.2)...not OS 9 vs. OS X

It is nice to see people stand up for their faith.
Sorry, I don't know anything about your powerbook :)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the pre-pismo PowerBook use hardware DVD decoding and therefore won't work with OS X's DVD player?
Maybe that's the problem here.
