View Full Version : Unhappy with 20" iMac Core Duo

I have had my iMac for a couple days. I was excited when it was on its way, now... I am not so much. It could be any of the following things causing this:
1: I have to tether my Treo 650 via bluetooth to use the internet until I get High Speed next week.
2: I can't update because the files are way too big to download on my current (slow) connection.
3: I have had the screen go dim and display the shutdown the computer message 2 times in 2 days, while I was doing mundane tasks. I am running on 10.4.4, so I won't know if the updates will fix this until next week.
4: I have one stuck green pixel. The area around the pixel is dark as well. I am taking it to my local Apple certified computer job to get it checked out and possibly replaced.
5: I am sitting in a uncomfortable chair until tonight when I get a real desk chair for my desk.
6: Sitting on the stock 512MB until I have some extra funds to upgrade to 2GB.
7: I got it used from someone here, there are a few unoticable to the normal person blemishes on it. I went over it with a magnifying glass because I am psycho. I will get over them eventually. The iMac looks awesome though, I am just picky.
8: All the speculation on the new iMac updates that may/may not come. I know this is a great computer, but you know how it is.
Good things:
For what I paid ($1400) I got a great computer that is in good condition. It is obviously still under warranty and I plan on buying AppleCare.
For some reason though I am just not as excited about this Mac as I have been when I got my previous ones. What is wong with me?

Aw, what useless piece of junk you have there, just give it to me!:D
Honestly, some of the points you mentioned have nothing to do with the imac, like the chair and the internet connection. The dead pixel so is what may bother the most, just see if you can get the machine replaced. Is it very noticeable? As for the maybe soon or not too soon updates, forget them, you got a nice machine there and made a quite good deal with the price you payed already. Upgrade to at least 1gb ram as soon as possible, get the high speed internet and I'm sure everything turns out to be fine.

You are a spoiled like so many other Mac users. Switch your iMac with your friends Dell for just a few days, it will be a revelation to both of you.:D ;)

So it's nothing years of therapy and thousands of little pills won't cure.

You don't give very good advice.
Also, I built and fixed PC's for years before I switched to Macs. Which is why I switched, so I don't need your so called "revelation" I already had it. I am not unhappy with the speed or the OS, I can't quite pin it. I am just not happy for some reason.

I stated I will be getting High Speed and upgrading to 2GB.
I know that many don't have anything to do with the iMac which is why I listed them in the first place
P.S. You can't have it. Sorry.

why is it the apple imac's fault that you have a crappy chair, crappy internet connection, and you bought one with blemishes?
seriously, what's the point of this thread?

There are other things which have to do with the iMac. For instance random shut down messages. Stuck pixel with Dark Areas. Forgot to list that it runs a bit hot.
My chair isnt crappy, it is a relaxing chair not a desk chair which isn't very comfortable for using the computer.
Oh yeah, it would be the iMacs fault that it blemishes easy. Also, you making yourself look like an ass made me feel much better thanks!

Um, you shouldn't have gotten 2 kernel panics in two days.
Take the iMac install disc that came with your iMac and do a hardware test.
Hopefully before you take the iMac in!

the random shut downs are cause for concern. The rest of it not so much, but I'd definitely get those shut downs checked out.

The kernal panics may still be in the system log, depends on why the machine paniced -- thermal runaway, or RAM.

I am forced to run 10.4.4 for now. I know there have been some pretty important updates including the SMC update which only work on 10.4.6.
I am not sure what could be causing it though. If I get to 50% usage my temp jumps to about 50C. Which seems a little hot to me. I am going to run a burn in app to see if it is the Heat causing it.

It is a useless thread. You bought a Imac with stuck pixels. Accept it or return it. You bought an Imac with blemishes. Accept it or return it. You have kernel panic. Wait until you get the updates. If it persists, then post. You have an uncomfortable chair. Get a new one.
It's a useless thread because THERE'S NO ADVICE ANYONE CAN GIVE YOU.
But you're not bright enough to realize that.

I just fell off my chair (my comfortable, reclining one) onto my carpeted, soft floor.

What is wong with me?
Nothing.
You are maturing and now have a nascent realization that happiness does not come from consumerism.
