The poll made by this forum regarding the MacPros new design wasnt giving enough options, so here is my prospective!

Keep the same size, weight, style and material, just add a few more USB/Firewire ports and maybe a memory card reader. Do this, and I'll be happy

I chose #2...The existing G5 case is dead sexy...'nuff said. :D

It would be nice if it didn't weigh nearly 60 pounds.

I think that #3 is the best option. I love the look of the Power Mac G5's case, but a few enhancements could stand to be made. :)

I voted #1 but I really want #5. I want to be wowed.

Give me something new to look at! So far everything looks pretty much the same this year, so I doubt they'll actually change anything this year. I get the impression Apple are doing the transition in 2 stages. First move the new chips in and then next year start redesigning everything. I suppose it helps with transitions such as this due to product familiarity.

A new Cube would be nice.

Come on Apple, bring the Cube back to us! :)

I voted for a change in G5's casing, though it doesn't matter as I'll never get (read: be able to afford) one...

Heh, I'm suddenly reminded of the chaos following WWDC '03.
"Cheese Graters??!?"
"G5's are fugly!"

Apple is brainwashing us...

I like the look of the G5, just give it to me at about 70% (or less) of the size and weight. #3 for me.

I went with keeping the good old G5 look. I don't know how Apple can really make it any better on the outside, they would really have to shock me.

I dont know about that, to tell you the truth apple keeps surprising us, still i voted for 3 too only because i havent satiated yet with the G5model and not thati dont believe that apple can give something new better/nicer!

I was just looking at my QuickSilver G4 the other day and thinking how beautiful it really is. On the other-hand, I always like the idea of something newer and cooler that hasn't been thought of yet.

I really hope Apple blow us away with something new with an unbelievable cool and sensible design. I never really liked the look of the Power Mac G5s. How about a cross between the Power Mac G3 "smurfbox" or the Power Mac G4 and the Mac mini with easy user friendly access for replacing all vital parts?

Every generation they have made significant changes, so they should continue that trend.
However, on the other hand- the design of the iMac didn't change from the G5 to the Intel...

Well the smaller and more powerfull, that should be it... a minimacPRO, very powerfull.

I voted something from scratch... but I still want it to be alluminum. I agree with the more USB. (4+) Firewire 400 (2) and a Fireewire 800 (1). cards slots would be nice but not all of them... just the most common. (MiniSD/Sony and CF Card would be good.) I like the "holes" in the front... something smaller and lighter would be good.

i love the current design, as i loved most of the G3-4 designs. But i dont want to see any of them in the MacPro. New designs please!

So those rumors regarding dual optical drives, well... what are they for?
Heck...whatever they are for, i still vote for enhancing the aluminium case!

The G5 case generally didn't have any flaws unless you count the size and weight "issues".

Unlike Apple's other desktops and laptops, looks aren't really a selling point in comparison with power and upgrade options in their Power Macs.
I think the G5 achieved the cool and functional approach it attempted.

That said, I'd really like to see Apple change their overall trend in the Intel-switch and release something that's somewhat different from the G5; even a modification such as the black Macbook would be refreshing.

I'd say a little smaller, still Metal but maybe a new design

I really hope this (http://www.appleinsider.com/image.php?i=macpro-case-mock&id=1886&pe=1) will be the PowerMac, not MacPro. Don't start a discussion about what it will be called.:D

I really like the G5 design, and aluminum. I don't hope they change it with the MBP or PM. I voted for pure G5 design!:D

G5 design is cool, but I want more space for additional 3.25'' and 5.25'' drives.

I never heard of such drives. I only know of 2.5" (laptop) and 3.5" (desktop) HDD's. I actually believe there is a chance of 4 HDD Bays, since they won't have to use so much space on cooling. The PowerMac G4 had 4 HDD bays...

5.25 drives are optical drives (CD/DVD) for desktop computers, 3.5 are the largest hard drives for desktop computers

I'd really like to see a completely new look. G4/G3 is been there done that. And G5 is basically the same. If you wow the customers, then they will buy like mad. ;) It's an Apple Addict's nature.

Jul 16, 2006, 11:32 AM
I'd like it to stay the same but maybe add a second optical drive and more HDD bays:) i'm still using a Powermac G4 an haven't had the pleasure of owning a g5 in that design, so i hope they don't chnage it :)

To tell the truth, i believe this thread should have been posted, 1 year ago. That would be the time i take it that Apple prolly began creating the whole project called "MacPro Plastic Surgery". Now im afraid that, even if Steve took ever a glimpse to what we all users are saying, its too late for Apple to take any ideas from us! Then again i dont care ill say what i have to say :D

Damn it, Steven when will u ever gonna appear in this forum and have a chit chat with some of us users and hear us out? I know u are busy but heck arent we all! ;)

Amen!

MacBook - Notebook for the consumer
MacBook Pro - Notebook for the pro
iMac - The Mac for i (me), which is the consumer
PowerMac - The Mac for the user which requires a lot of power, which is the pro
MacMini - for the kids:D :p

I just realized that the G5 is nearly 3 years old, I think it's due for a new design!
