View Full Version : Overlapping Text Rendering Problems?

I want to try to get a count of how many people this overlapping-text rendering problem is affecting.
example image:
http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=49790&d=1149732340
Also, please post if you are getting these problems in a browser that is not Safari.

yes.. me, too.
and I accidentally checked both "occasionally" AND "frequently" :o It's frequently, ignore my vote for "occasionally. :o :o
Usually a refresh fixes it up, but on a few threads, it doesn't help anything.

I am obviously :P (screen grab is mine)
Just got it on this reply as well
The thing is, is that the overlapping only occurs at the top of the page not throughout
Also after my picture uploaded the colors of the page disappeared. No greys or anything, just white

I haven't gotten any overlapping text using this one.. I'll browse around some more, and if it happens again, I'll post here.
But, I've loaded 30 or so threads using this theme, and aside from being hard on my eyes, it's fine.
(oh how I miss the prettiness of the old theme! :p)
edit:
should (attached image) be happening?
Take note of the post count number, too.

Somehow the vBulletin 3 skin got turned on, which has reputation and post counts visible...plus the add-to-reputation button.
I kind of like the skin though, except for the fact that at the top it says "vBulletin" instead of having the MR header.
As to the page rendering problems, I've had them happen a few times but only in one forum...I just can't remember which it was. I want to say either private or picture gallery...I'll wait and see if it happens again.
Edit: I think that image uploading doesn't work in the VB 3 skin. I tried it. Plus the reputations are funny. And I have a star. :D

ah... ya, image uploading wont' work on the default theme for now.
No reports of screwed up text in the default theme? I've rebuilt the some of the templates on the regular side.
If you feel brave, you can try going back to the "normal" macrumors theme:

and let me know if the problems are still there.

Safari 2.0.3, build version 417.9.3 here. I'm as up-to-date as Software Updater will let me be, and I have no extras installed. I get quite frequent problems (although it's not that much of a bother to just refresh the page). :)

I will state this does not happen on vbulletin.org vbulletin.com or my site. So it can't be just a safari vB thing it has to be something else.
A certain hack that doesn't like safari or something

This same issue appears to have been reported:
http://bugzilla.opendarwin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=8772
I submitted my own bug (http://bugzilla.opendarwin.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9443) report before I saw this one. I don't know why it affects vbulletin boards specifically, but it does appear to be an association.

Maybe it is due to the number of posts. The three sites i listed above combined don't have as many as MR
EDIT: nope that site has only 52 or 520 thousand posts (forget how much)
I am totally lost on why it happens just here for me

I see overlapping text very infrequently with Camino 1.0b2+
Will send a screengrab and/or source next time one pops, if that helps.

I've never had rendering issues here on Safari 2.0.3, using the MR skin.
But, for what it's worth, I get a lot of issues like the one in this post: http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=2517874&postcount=8 on another vB3.5 forum when using the default vB skin - so, the problem isn't only at MR.

First I clicked for "occasionally", then I thought 'it hasn't been that often lately' and clicked "very infrequent", and the poll accepted both...
But that's actually the best answer I could give because I've just changed browser:
Firefox 1.5.0.4 (with AdBlock) under 10.4.6: Occasionally (but I just never thought much of it)
Bon Echo 2.0a3 (with Adblock Plus) still under 10.4.6: Very infrequent (just twice, I think)
Just reloading the page has always corrected it.

A new one that i have gotten a few times today is a page not completely loading
4 or 5 posts on the page load, i will see just text for what styleid i am using and thats it. I will take a screencap next time it happens.
A refresh makes the rest of the posts and page show up
Just happened but i am sending it in a PM

I'm using Camino Version 2006042704 (1.0.1), and have had minor text disruption, maybe once a day. The usual way it shows is by if a user has a short post, usually there would be white space below, so the post height was still the same to allow for the height of their avatar, location, AIM button etc. Well, in this case the post is exactly the height of their words, so their avatar and location overlap the next post. It's minor compared to some of the examples above, and doesn't disrupt my MR pleasure significantly. :D I think it happened a few times months ago, but it has been happening again recently, and seems to coincide with the problems others are having.
Hope that makes sense, and I'll screengrab it and edit this post when it happens again.

Not where the attachments show up, the window where you attach something.
I wonder if having Debug on has anything to do with it? How many people with problems have Safari Debug on?

Not sure if something else has changed but whereas last night I was getting one of these odd errors seldomly enough that I couldn't tell you what % it was, tonight it's much more frequent. Probably one in 10 pages is rendering like with the bottom navigation inside the final post

Yep. It has increased exponentially in, say, the last 24 hours.
I'm getting wretched bottom navigation on pretty much every page, problems with the posts themselves on maybe 1/2 the pages.

Safari Team at Apple,
There is a problem at the forums at MacRumors. It is inconsistent but happens often, and is noted by other users. What is happening is the text is being scrambled together and the page isn't being loaded correctly.
Text scrambled screen shot: http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=50415&d=1150414729
Page not being loaded correctly screenshot:
