Does anybody know what will happen if I connect my LaCie d2 external harddrive to a windoze firewire box?

When I bought it, I didn't have to format it when I hooked it up to my mac (running 10.2), so I have a pretty good feeling that when I hook it to a windoze box (running xp) it will see the file system from my mac. I need those files in tact on a windoze box.

Can anybody confirm that? It is really important.

Thanks

Open up Disk Utility and then check out the Volume on the d2.

If it's HFS+, then the PC won't read it. If it's FAT32, then you'll be fine.

See red box for location of Format info:

Probally Not,

If your Drive is formated in HFS+ (The Mac File System) Windows won't read it (Unless you have 3rd party software or 2000 Server).

If your Drive is Formatted in FAT(32) or NTFS then you should have no problems (unless you're trying to read NTFS from 9x or Me.

Hope that helps,

Macdrive 98 is the last program I remember that allows Windows to view Mac Drives. Do a search on Google for Mac Drives on PCs.

Erase Disk... Under OS9's Special Menu should allow you to reformat as FAT.

Reboot into OS9, select your drive and goto the special menu and it should be there.

Nope. Unfortunately, it would not let me. It gives me the option of mac os or mac os extended. Is there some other way, or another app that does it???

Drive setup, or check Versiontracker for a disk utility that will allow a reformatting.

Another idea is to reformat on a PC (in FAT32) and then bring it to your Mac and copy your files that way.

It should, Macs can read Fat/FAT32 Drive (Usually) If not, there are problly drivers for your drive to allow you to do it.

ummm, don't forget to back it up before you reformat it, just in case you didn't know. (i assume you did)
