And it'll be cheaper than £827 for Higher Ed customers. My mate goes to university at Thames Valley and gets wonderful discounts on everything. He got Logic Pro for £200 or something stupid like that.

£643.90 for a MacBook? instead of £749 retail?
£1120 or so for a 15" MacBook Pro instead of £1399?
How are you not seeing this?

Where are you seeing those prices? The store is still showing £749 for a MacBook. Or, are we talking edu prices here?
Hope this is true, going to splashing some cash on a MacBook *very* soon. Did wonder if something like this was going happen, El Reg was reporting a while back, that Intel was going to be slashing Core Duo prices.

Free shipping to US with .co.uk prices?
If so... sweet! If not... I'm sure we Americans would make up for the discount.

Sorry i wasn't clear :(, I meant the prices hadn't come down since a few days ago on the laptops for everyone (and therefore the HE price would be even less!)

Does anyone know why they may have done this or know if it means they will be bringing out better spec'd machines soon. I really want one, nearly bought yesterday and couldn't believe when I saw price drop today, but now suspicious and dont want to buy a machine if it is at clearance price.

Just paid for my 17" iMac last week.
But SO happy with it, it was worth £50 just to have it a week earlier.
No, really.

In the US, if the price changes within 10 days, you get the difference back. Call Apple, see if they'll do it for you. If nothing else, maybe they'll give you a gift cert or $50 back on your next purchase.
