A friend of my lent me a mix tape 12 years ago to listen to a band called Big Bag of Sticks. (They were okay but, on the other side was a fantastic album of ballads sung mostly by two women and I really want to know who they are and what the album is.

I have a couple of the lyrics:

One song goes something like

Please let me help you
Please, please let me hold you
Oh I only want to help you
Oh I need to hold you

All the pain I've caused
Should've knocked you to the floor
But you're the best thing, that ever happened
To Me (The 'Me' is drawn out as the chorus)

They also do a version of 'Does She Love You'. I can find a Melissa Etheridge version of this but it isn't the right one (nor is it as good)

If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it

Another one is I think!

If I brought the saddle back, please would you kill me.

I can't remember what comes next but the chorus is simply
Fly, Fly Fly Fly

Please Help, Please!

Hi there,

I know the Big Bag of Sticks personally - they're my best friends, and the 1st song you typed out, is definitely theirs.... Colin wrote the lyrics and Caroline sings them... They have 2 setups for the band, one is a full band with vocals, violin, mandoline, guitar, bass & drums & some electric guitar... and they have a 3 piece band as well, which only consists of vocals, violin & guitar...
Maybe the 2nd side of your tape has the 3 piece on... The 3 piece band mostly does ballady type stuff (slower songs) & when recording, Caroline will often put a 2nd track of herself on (just for harmony with her 1st track)

Njoy!!

I love seeing things like this. A guy looks for 12 years, one post on the web and BAM! instant gratification.

AWESOME!

That's what the web is all about - gratifying yourself instantly.

Wait, that didn't come out right...oh, well. :D

OK here is one I had on a mix tape almost 20 years ago. Guitar bass and drums; vocalist is a David Bowie/ Bryan Ferry sounding guy. Other stuff on the tape included early Go-Betweens and early They Might Be Giants. I have googled the lyrics and searched for it for years--

Chorus:

Was she something worth loving
she was all that and more
(something) watchers and showers
with subtle beauty
she was all that
she was all that and you know
its the eyes that tell me
she's a work of art

Does anyone know it?

EDIT: Googled the lyrics and finally found it on a Spanish Language forum-- its called "State of Art" by "Friends Again" on an album called "Trapped and Unwrapped." LINK (http://lostbands.blogspot.com/2005/09/friends-again.html). I bought it from half.com. Man, the internet is sweet.

So I answered my own question-- sorry I can't delete.

It's awesome to see more mix tape discovery stories.

A friend of mine made me a mix tape, and for about 4 years I tried to find who the artist of this one song was. He wasn't sure either, because he took the song from another mix someone made for him. I eventually found out when my girlfriend gave me a cd of the same artist. After I heard the voice I knew it was them.

This probably isn't helpful at all for those of you looking to identify some obscure mixtape, but I'll throw it out there just for good measure.

I ran across Tunatic (http://www.wildbits.com/tunatic/) a few weeks ago (probably from this forum...). Basically you play the song into the microphone so it can be from a tape/cd/radio and it analyzes it and attempts to find it in its database. It's worked pretty well for me so far.

Some company did the same thing as a cell service a year ago or so, but this is better and freeer.
