Well, I was playing around on the modded xbox last night with some old games. I also did a search here but didn't find this post already.

What was your favorite NES game?

Mine was Super Dodge Ball. I played that game so much. Sam was great. So was the bald guy. In fact, that's the only cartridge I have left from the nintendo I sold when the SNES came out. I always kept it becuase it was my favorite.

Super Mario Bros or The Legend of Zelda both stick out in my mind as being completely amazing at the time.

My older brother an I actually wore out a Super Mario Bros. 3 cartridge. The cartridge no longer worked, the system was fine just no more SMB3. I actually took the cartridge apart and got a few more weeks out of it. But it's the only game I ever saw that happen to.

Super Mario Bros. 3. Although I also recently found Boulder Dash, and am re-loving that all over again.

Favorite NES game (and favorite video game ever, for that matter) - RBI Baseball.

Tecmo Bowl comes in second as well as Super Mario 3.

Excite Bike. I loved that game. :D

Bubble Bobble was one of the best games ever. The famicon version wasn't so great IMO. Played the life out of the C64 version.

Contra was definitely my favorite game on the NES. I've yet to find a shooter game that is as much fun to play with 2 players co-op. There was a baseball game that I'd play for hours with my brother as well, but I can't remember which

Mario 3, Punch out, Dragon warrior and Zelda 1 were so awesome! If i had to pick one tho it would be Mario 3. Out of all the toys i had when i was younger thats the only one i still remember begging for and then getting it the day it came out at toys r us. I remember running into the store and grabbing the little slip of paper and having to take it up to the cage to get the game. Man that rocked!!

That would be impossible for me to say #1 favorite. Though if I were to only have 1 game it would probably be Nintendo's Tetris because it had tremendous replay value.

DEMON SWORD.

I'll admit that Super Volleyball is really fun... but for some reason it took me forever to become any good at all at it.

People know of Star Tropics? I love that game, but my faves are:

Super Mario Bros. 3 - 1 meh, 2 meh+
Zeldas - 1 & 2
OMG MY FAVE OF ALL IS: Little Dream Master Nemo - Little Nemo, oh I loved that game. When I was out of surgery when I was like 5, I would just play that game days on end. I love it love it love it!!! <3 <3 <3
FF's sucked, Metroid sucked -- sorry SNES made those :( I know here comes the flamin'
Contra's were pretty good
2050, if anyone has played that, was pretty good
Megamans - meh, they were alright

my 2 cents - surprised I haven't seen anyone put the Goonies (sp?) - never seen it, but hear a lot about it. Haven't played it.

I've played them on SNES - FF2 on NES was better, but FF1 made me mad cause you couldn't attack enemies unless you specifically put your attack on them (like you just choose attack and it just automatically selects the next enemy, but in FF1 it didn't work like that)
Metroid was better on SNES, just bc of graphics basically. Oh and another game I forgot to mention:
...??? what was it... Adventure Island. I love that game. The Gameboy one is really fun and that's what... 2-bit grayscale graphics? 4-bit Grayscale? Anyways, its a great game.

EDIT: Gameboy 3-bit Grayscale (e.g. 4-colors 1=1 2=2 3=4 4=8 5=16 - for those of you who don't know binary. That would be: 00000011 = 3 in 128-bit)

3 bits gives you 8 colors, 4 colors can be done in 2 bits. 1-bit will give you 2 colors one for the LED on one when it is off.

for figuring out how many colors per bit its 2^n where n is the number of bits so 1=2, 2=4, 3=8, 4=16, 5=32... 16=65536, etc.

Star Tropics.

In fact my new roommate actually owns Star Tropics and Zoda's Revenge.

And I recently learned ST is a Nintendo title (not 3rd party). I'm crossing my fingers for a SSBB appearance of Mike.:D

Some great games mentioned in here.

IF I made a list, and not just my one favorite game, it would look like

super dodge ball
bubble bobble
excite bike
ikari warriors
Contra
Crystalis
MT's Punch Out (funny how many cultural stereotypes were in that game)
Life Force
The Mega Man games (first game to ever have the character blink his eyes)
Wolverine
Super Mario Bros 3

well... I currently have no monitor or Mac in my room. so I guess it's time to finally beat Metroid, Mario Bros 1 and Zelda 1 on my GBA :o I have yet to finish any of them, old machine or new. just too hard. even now! bad for the guy who can beat Satan Sam's 'Echo World' blindfolded ;) and Eternal Daughter!

some games I'm just appreciating from the NES era (thanks to ports)

-Kirby Adventure/Nightmare in Dreamland. Such an epic game. very fun to play. VERY fun co-op (hugging mates is great ;) )
-Final Fantasy I. Never really fell in love with an FF game until getting this last year. so simple, so enjoyable.
-Marble Madness :P

Super bestest:

Super Mario Bros. 1 and 3
Zelda
Punch Out

Runners up:

Duck Hunt
Hogans Alley
KungFu
River City Ransom

Third String favorites:

Super Dodgeball
Golgo 13 (I think)
Super Mario 2
Contra

Man, I remember playing Mario 1 for the first time still. My aunt bought be a NES for my ~7th birthday, and I was just hooked. Absolute classic game... and then my mom rented a movie about 6 months later and brought me home a game to play while they watched it. And so began my first gaming marathon: Zelda.

Holy crap, I am gonna be out quite a few bucks when the Wii's virtual console hits - assuming they give us a quality retro controller (none of that PlayStation controller had an illegitimate child with a SNES controller looking thing)!

I second Blades of Steel.

God I loved RBI Baseball, Tecmo Bowl, Punchout, Mario 3, Zelda.

No gaming system as close to my heart.

Should Nintendo release a massive NES library for the Wii, I have a feeling that I'll be playing the NES games far more than Wii games.

I haven't used an emulator, so all I have are my childhood memories of staying up late and play NES. Are there NES emulators for Mac?

Oh, and Double Dribble, anyone???? :)

....and Rygar...

....and Top Gun... (I could never land the damn plane!)

....and Mighty Bomb Jack...

....and Jaw's Revenge...

....and 10-Yard Fight...

....and RC Pro-Am...

....and Golf...

....and Ice Hockey...

Damn this thread! :(

Tie between Zelda 1 and Castlevania II.

Also, looking through other responses reminded me how great RC Pro-Am was.

There are a couple good NES emulators for OS X... I want to say that RockNES is the "best" one available, but there may be some others that have more features.

My only thing is that I want a REAL NES controller - complete with it's hand cramping goodness - to play with. I hope the make some really high quality ones for the Wii... much better than using a generic Gravis gamepad on the computer!

Oh, and RC ProAM was awesome, good call on that one.

EDIT: I think RockNES was renamed/replaced with something else... NEStopia maybe?

Damn, forgot about the Rygar and Castlevania games! Loved those... And of course the original Metal Gear - far ahead of its time when it was released...

Yeah, I think if I had a Wii I'd spend more time on it playing old games than new games. :D
