View Full Version : Little Snitch Alert on Opening an MR Thread

Hi
Not sure if this is the correct place to post this --- sorry for any mistake. :)

Is this a common or worrying occurrence?

I clicked on the MR >Community Discussion > 2006 Tour de France Thread and, as soon as it opened, I got a Little Snitch alert that my browser, Shiira, wanted to connect to the site students.jmc.ksu.edu (presumably the students' area of Kentucky State University) on TCP Port 16080.

50454

None of the posts on the thread had any members that were obviously from KSU. Opening other threads don't give this alert.

I have cleaned up my machine (Panther 10.3.9) with Applejack and the 'problem' is still there.

Is there a known explanation for this? Thanks for any help/advice. : :) confused:

Brilliant. Thanks. Because I had told Little Snitch to deny the reuqest, the image didn't get downloaded and I didn't see the image - didn't even notice that there was an image to see.

Many thanks for your prompt and kind help. :)

Is little snitch like a firewall?

Sort of...Little Snitch gives a good description on their site (http://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html). It's more informative than a conventional firewall, and is focused on outgoing traffic from your computer rather than incoming traffic.

Yup. Have a look at it here (http://www.obdev.at/products/littlesnitch/index.html). Its best feature is that regulates traffic from your computer (like in the example I used in my OP), especially useful in 'phone home' apps or whatever. It's an extra layer of security on top of your basic OSX firewall. :)

Image question: Is there a forum preference to attach an image or point to one?

ZoneAlarm (http://www.zonelabs.com) is a reverse firewall like Little Snitch. =]
