It's hard to trust these estimates because of...
1.9% in 2005?

I think it's important to keep things relative when talking about these percentages. For Apple to grow from a 2% market share to a 4% is only a 2% increase. But that also implies that Apple has to double it's current share. Doubling ones share in a particular market is no easy task. This also assumes that Apple wants double it's market share. Maybe Apple is content where they are.

Apple the computer maker should be content. They have their niche and good profits.

It is only a matter of time that people buy Macs.
The way I see it is there are only two major reasons not to buy a Mac and many major reasons to buy a Mac. Here are the two reasons one should not buy a Mac:
1. It is too expensive for me.
2. I don't like the hardware.
Comment on #1: Considering that Macs can run Windows and OS X, Mac hardware is more reliable than other PC hardware, Apple technical support is more reliable than PC companies, OS X makes working more productive, virus scan, firewall and spyware software isn't necessary with OS X, Mac software lasts longer and Mac hardware lasts longer than PCs, the price is less for a Mac than it is for a PC in the long run. Meaning the only reason to consider #1 is for a short-term PC that is going to be replaced soon after it is purchased.
This only leaves a reasonable, financially stable and tech educated person with only the second one to consider.
Comment on #2: The only issue that I can see anyone having with Mac hardware is limited choice of hardware components. Some people like AMD processors and some people like the option of floppy drives. Others like the option of a second battery for their laptop and others like the option of modifying their hardware and many supported styles of internal hardware components.
If none of these apply then there is no reason not to buy a Mac.
Even if some of these apply then they have to out way the following list where short-term price and extensive hardware choice and modification must be more important than:
- Experiencing OS X
- Being able to flexibly switch between operating systems
- Reliable hardware
- Good looking hardware
- Long term expenses
- Top of the line technical support
- Bundled software
I would guess that at least 75% of Windows users who reasonably consider this will buy a Mac.
Ignorance isn't bliss; knowledge is.
