1) The beta version of the iPod Video Converter is free, so for right now people don't have to pay.

2) According to their website, it will "supply >200% conversion speed". iSquint's website only claims that "iSquint can convert most video files to iPod-screen-sized videos in realtime" (although they say this on a 1 GHz G4).

That being said, I'm not installing the iPod Video Converter. I downloaded it and the gz file opens a folder with two packages:

IPodVideoConverter
IPodVideoConverter.1.pkg

I clicked on the first one and it didn't open. I see now that it's zero KB, so it's no wonder it didn't open. The second package did work, but if they can't even get the installer packages worked out, I'm not going to trust them to install any files on my computer.

I installed it. That part worked just fine.
The UI looks nice and is easy to use.
Unfortunately, I get a failure every time I choose "encode".
I've tried several different file types from their list, and have chosen several different output options. All the same result.

My PowerBook (G4, 1.67Ghz, "Hi-Res", 2GB RAM) seems well within their spec.

It is a Beta, I guess. I'm willing to keep trying.
