MPEG-2 Decode is what many people have been requesting...

QT 6!! YES!
Now this is something remarkable. No 5.1 half hearted steps.
QT will be 1st choice in future applications, Real especially will face a tough future...:rolleyes:

What's holding up MP4 deployment? The licensing people.. Be sure to write them constructively and point out how a per-charge on content against users will inhibit the use of MP4 codecs at home and on university campuses and public libraries. People don't like pay per view schemes.. The one time .25 cent charge per codec is fine and in fact Apple says they're happy to pay that.. Send your greivances to:

Apple might charge for the upgrade, though, seeing as how its 6 and not 5.1.

maybe, but if past upgrade policy holds, if you bought a v5.x key it will work for 6...if you bought a v4.x key it worked for v5 but will not for v6....you get one free upgrade

And of course he said nothing. Anyone got the skinny about the other unmentioned features of QT6? This has been a longstanding problem of QT's AVI implementation, which they should have fixed by now.

On a side note, any wagers as to how long it will be until everyone DOES settle on a licensing scheme? The MPEGLA has no excuse for being greedy AND stupid. How could they possibly think such an expensive, complex, and difficult license would be acceptable to the public, especially in the face of competing formats?

I don't understand why this wasn't worked out in the beginning, before Apple put all this effort into making MPEG4 the core of Quicktime.

QTSS just serves up the content. The license is for encode/decode. QTSS does neither.

(Broadcaster does, however, and thus is not available today)

I know apple has a habit of storing possibly useful domain names but I guess you people have noticed where http://www.iphone.org/ points to?

Also bare in mind the comment from one of the QT speakers talking about mobile phones (I only saw a couple of seconds, so it may have ben out of context) but he was congratulating Apple on their work with mobile tech

Too bad, I'm going to get a Treo soon, I can't wait for apple to release the iPhone.
It's a good idea though.
