IMO, we don't need anymore.
Hopefully words can convey your meaning, and not be reduced to (IMO) "iChattery".
Mainly because everytime I see the following, I want to kill a kitten with a spork.
:)     :p  :D

Nope...the MR set is much better than the default vBulletin ones, yet small enough and simple enough so as to not be distracting.

The only one I think we're missing is an equivilent to the text smiley ":/", ":\" or ":-/" etc.
:o sort of does it but it doesn't quite convey the same thing.

I know what you mean, but they look a bit dated. At the other forum I am at it has a lot of nice ones, like an angel bumping it's halo, etc..
check them out, it doesn't require you to register:
FreedomList forum (http://www.freedomlist.com/forum/)
try just going in to the post, you can see them

Maybe if they added the 'nana humper' one I'd be on board.

FWIW, that's phpBB, not vBulletin.

or in other words. That forum is made of crap buggy, security flaw ridden software, while this site uses the best forum software I have ever used. (Along with Neo Turkey but that is another story)

But it's free and has fantabulous smilies! :)
At least neither one is a site that has a bajillion smilies for every conceivable facial expression.

Animated smilies are distracting...
If you really want a certain smiley you can always upload it to some web space somewhere and put the image in your post.

Because I have time to kill. Please note, this list is by no means definitive-
 = eek, surprised
 = mad, upset
 = rolleyes, sarcastic
 = cool
:p = stick out tongue, being playful, etc...
;) = wink, just kidding, being playful, etc...

Here are the rest (there is a 10 smilie cap per post)-
:D = big grin, happy, estatic, etc...
:o = embarrassed
:( = sad, upset, etc...
:) = smilie, happy, pleased, etc...
 = don't understand, confused, etc...

Maybe a few more wouldn't hurt. Like one with a halo or the whatchutalkinbout one with one eyebrow up and the other eye squinting. Or the one with the crooked mouth that looks like this: ~. Maybe a crying one and one of these : o. Not too many though as to get complicated.
Just keep them in the same order please. http://www.tag-board.com/smilies/sick.gif

http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6621&stc=1Where was this when people were posting all those "PowerBook G5" threads? :D
In all seriousness, more smileys are better, particularly if they're relatively small and subtle (Sun Baked's notwithstanding ;) ). They do sometimes help clarify the tone of what you're saying.
I've gotta look around, but I'll post some suggestions.

Well, here are a few I found rather quickly:
http://users.adelphia.net/~tjveil/images/yeahright.gif Doubtful. (As in, "Yeah, riiiight.") Highly useful in a place called MacRumors.
http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/tweetz/headshake.gif Pitiful. (As in: "I'm sorry something bad happened to you," or "That's a really dumb post.")
http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/edoom/theyareontome.gif Someone in the Political Forum brings up the subject of abortion.
http://smilies.vidahost.com/otn/confused/hrm.gif Yeah. Whatever.
http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/blackeye/lol.gif Pretty much self-explanatory.
http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/tweetz/spam1.gif Ditto.
http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/sally/lol.gif LOL.
http://smilies.vidahost.com/cwm/cwm/eek2.gif "Omigod, Bush just declared martial law!"

Tell you to shake hands and make up with another member, and y'all would probably http://forums.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=6341
