Yes, clayj, VERY nice looking room/setup. :)

Haha, I thought this thread was about iPod Hi-Fi's. In which case, no, nobody has one cause they're too damn expensive for a speaker system that is kind of ugly anyway! :p

The chairs are Le Corbusier... you can get them from DWR (dwr.com) or from local furniture stores (the good ones are made by Cassina of Italy). They're a classic design, almost cliché, but I love how they look.

Other BeoLabs maybe (except the top of the range ones), but the BeoLab 3s are amazing speakers! I'll have to wait until I get a sofabed though... at the moment my ears point upwards when listening which isn't much use when the speakers are in front of me.

Not bad for a 15 year old though eh? :p

Basically some old Sony gear from 1998. All still going strong so I see no reason to replace any of it. There's a minidisc recorder there which is gathering dust, and a Pure Digital 702 ES DAB tuner which I use a fair bit. Speakers are AE Aegis Ones. Toothbrush is Braun ;)

What in the name of the Lord is that? It looks very interesting, and if it plays music i want to hear it :)

I'm gradually becoming an audiophile via the Headphone route. ( I would rather invest in several pairs of high end headphones, and various Amps so i can enjoy my music any time day or night w/o disturbing a soul :)

I don't have any pictures, since it is on a different continent than me. My apartment is not suitable for a hi fi in any case.

I have my old Arcam Alpha 8 Receiver and CD player in storage. I used to have the B&W 602 speakers, but I sold them when I moved overseas.

I could afford something nicer now, but I have nowhere to put it.

Onkyo TX8211 receiver
Realistic (Radio Shack) Minimus 3.5 bookshelf speakers
iBook G4/1.3
iPod 3G 10GB with dock

I get very good sound with this setup; the Realistic spekaers are actually very good and I continue to be quite pleased with their performance. The Onkyo receiver is about the best deal out there if you just want a 2.0 system with a good tuner and sufficient amplifier.

Dude, you have some of the nicest small passive speakers B&O ever made. How do they sound with that valve amp? That Jolida must have cost a lot of ...

thecow
Sep 4, 2006, 10:48 AM
They sound quite nice. I got the amp used, so it was only $370. IIRC, it's $550 new. Also, the company HQ is about a 40 minute drive away so if it ever breaks I can take it there to have it fixed. For some reason, there are a lot of audio companies based in Maryland. The local hifi shop was the first distributor for Polk and Definitive.

Really? Wow. Thanks for the warning about that. Do you have any idea why they don't like B&Os? Something about the way they are designed?

Another thing that is weird is that if the original owner sells the amp, the warranty is voided. Not that that mattered much since it was ~5 years old when I got it and I've modded a few things.

It's a long story, but basically B&O tend to approach things from a more balanced perspective. Rather than concentrate solely on the sound, and then completely forget the looks of the hifi, they look at design as being almost as important as sound, and the same goes for user friendliness.

Take what hifi buffs say about your speakers on the chin. They are great speakers! ;)

Gawd you are lucky! I have NEVER heard speakers that deliver the same kind of depth those Wilsons give!

Well your friend is kind of right. I am never impressed with the sound of Bose. B&O does actually sound like hifi. Bose seem to be FAR more interested in making the speakers really small, and then thinking about the sound afterwards. They're also very very good at misleading people into thinking that the technology they're buying is amazing and revolutionary (such as the idea of bouncing sound around the room to improve the soundstage). Usually this is utter rubbish, and even if they do patent something good, it's really something nicked from someone else with a shiny name on it such as Wave Guide (ie, a labyrinth, standard speaker technology for the past 30 years...)

Just got some new loudspeakers today

iMac provides all the audio now.
4*Wharfedale Modus (god knows what I'll do with them now)
2* Rega Alya (2001 model) trying to find a place to stick them. floor standers are new to me.
Teleton A390 (freshly cleaned, inside and out)

Just got back from my uncles too. Has some QED amp that he'd never get rid of. Cyrix amp too, with some external power booster thingymajig. TEAC something transporter (apparently the 2nd best one they made). Forgot the speakers. some 192 DAC machine.
Wish I knew more really :p
