hey guys & gals,

i know you love all the tar threads that pop up... but i have a quick question... i am able to upload a tar... but not animated ones...

why is that?

when i upload or link to an animated tar it just shows the first frame... therefore it is not animated.

am i doing something wrong

Sorry for yet a nother Avatar thread :o

What format are you using? If it's GIF, it should work okay...

If you want to post it as an attachment, I can see if I can get it to work for you.

I use ImageReady. I'm sure there are others, but none I am intimately familiar with.

Also, if your avatar is just slightly too big (in either dimensions or file size) vBulletin may automatically downsize it, and because of a "glitch", convert it to a JPEG, and therefore a still avatar

It's too big. 75 x 75 pixels is the limit.

Strangely I've had a lot or problems with it too lately. I also use ImageReady and an animated gif (that is the correct size), that animates as an attachment, and or as an opened file in Safari just doesn't animate in the forum. It'll become my avatar, but won't animate. It's weird.

the irony of it all! thats why i find it funny... its attempting to give a damn...

and then doesent! :D

How about this? It's not perfect, but not terrible either.

skoker... thanks! that worked as you can see....

unfortunately the text is now to small to read on the tar... Darn...

hmmmm..... what to try next....

Edit: Wild cowboy, thank you as well... unfortunately i am having the same problem as skokers...

i can read the attempting to give a damn text... but the stopping and the damn not given text is unreadable... to me anyways... maybe i need glasses:D

Edit2: what is the .php.gif (php) tag that was on both of your revised tars?? did that come from the program you used to resize?

oops:o it was 29.69kb... gotcha...

Thank all of you for your help!

EMW, did you resize that tar in imageready?

something fairly easy for a n00b to do if i get the software?

thanks,

Mr. Funk

ImageReady is fairly intuitive to use for simple stuff like animated 'tars, yes. But I don't know that it's available as a stand-alone package vs. coming with Photoshop.

As a note - I took your 'tar, resized it, then recreated the text in a different size in order to make it readable. I also changed a couple of optimization settings.

i can never get my animated avatars below 19.5kb.

my current one at 75x75 is about 80Kb and i cant seem to reduce it.

if anyone can get this under forum rules size i'd be very appreciative.

The only way I found to do it was to reduce the size and the number of colors used.

It's not a great compromise. Perhaps if I had the original.

Mord

thanks, thats definitely a nicer compromise.

Believe it or not, I actually own the license to this. My cousin does IT and got me a license because they had a few left in their volume licensing agreement.

Are they supposed to give those to outside the organization people? Probably not.

My response: Meh.
