Basically, I'll be installing 10.3 on an old iBook G3 in a few days, and I'm wondering what's the best way to improve performance, such as disabling shadows, and what have you...

There's not much you can do in software...
Installing more RAM and a faster HD will be helpful.

Change Dock preferences. Genie Effect to Scale Effect and Magnify off.

I'm sure Tiger is faster than Panther, so you'd want to install it instead :)

search around for fastermac, an app that will disable some unnessary effects that will do help in your performance. i think versiontracker has it.
