Have them banned from all public buildings at once as a security measure. God knows what could happen if Saddam and his Al-Qaeda terrawrists got hold of one?

jesus.

for anyone worried intel macs use lipolymer batteries which have almost a zero chance of exploding

Abstract

So after the Dell found out what it was and what the world thought of him, it committed suicide.

Sweeeet. ;)

In Dell's defense, it was probably the battery and not the actual laptop.

Also, even though macs may use lipolymer batteries, there have been reported incidents. Check out http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/systems/macbook_Pro_user_reports.html for some photos. Someone reported their 15"macbook pro battery swelled up and burst out of its casing.

I just read this story (http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/20062006/6/n-odds-cheaters-score-high-marks-ingenuity.html) about electronic problems with students cheating on tests.

while an electronic device connected to headphones and strapped to a third student's body exploded, leaving a bleeding hole in his abdomen

What's with exploding electronics?

I'd bet money he opted out of the battery recall.

While funny in this setting since no body got hurt, I sure would not want to see this happen in a car, on a train, or on an airplane.

LOL.

al least no one got hurt. though admitedly it would have been funny to try to explain it to the ER staff especially if the computer was on someones lap at the time.

Now I've wished for the ability to go all Carrie on my old Dell many, many times. How come this guy was able to pull it off?! *grumbles, bastard stole my thunder.

Makes my Dell lappy (which had 11 or 13 motherboard replacements over it's lifetime) seem like an angel.

It makes me wonder if there were any warning signs prior to the explosion (small sparks or smoke??) I just don't want my Toshiba to burst into flames while I've got it on my lap.....

I don't see how this is bashing Dell, I mean, it could be any device with a rechargeable battery. Look at how many battery recalls apple has had.
