Microsoft hopes to work its magic through robotics (http://news.xinhuanet.com/english/2006-06/21/content_4727395.htm)

" Microsoft hopes that by providing a common software platform for building robots..."

Insert joke here:

Hopefully they will apply the Three Laws of Robotics.

There are 4 Laws of Robotics, but I'm guessing Big Business wouldn't allow the implementation of the Zeroth nor the First Laws since they'd effectively put a lot of people in the unemployment line.

I'm sure the robot will play solitaire flawlessly.

4 laws? What's the fourth? (or zeroth?)

Nevermind, Wikipedia to the rescue. I never read the Asimov book where he added a "zeroth law".
Hmm actually I did read that book (Robots and Empire (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robots_and_Empire)), but don't remember that. Well anyway.. 3 Classic Laws. :0

Except for when it crashes every other hour. ;) :D

They've already written the software for robots. It's called Windows.

I don't mind Microsoft getting into robot production. What's the worst that could happen?

As long as they don't start making airplanes that crash, I don't mind. ;)

Now that is a truly scary idea- M$ making airplanes.

Just imagine cruising along at 10,000 feet when all of a sudden the planes electronic system crashes and receives the Blue Screen of Death. ;)

I've seen ATM machines with the Blue Screen of Death. The thought of MS producing robots is downright scary. I've read too much sci-fi and seen too many movies. I'm starting to remind myself of this crazy guy on a bus I was on. He screamed, "I've seen Planet of the Apes - I know how you people operate!"

Yeah, that happened to me once. It was in 1998, and a new ATM at my uni still used Windows 3.0. I found out after the damn thing took my bank card and crashed, which means it swallowed it completely. Oh, and since I didn't get my money that day, I had no money and was (originally) on my way to the bus station to go home for something important. Guess who didn't make it home?

And I thought for sure they'd resurrect Microsoft Bob (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microsoft_bob). Gives those robots a human touch.

Users were assisted by cartoon characters whose appearence was usually vaguely related to the task.

And people wonder why we want an OS that has nothing to do with MS.

Thanks for the link to Bob ... I always wondered where the annoying, cartoon office assistants came from.

Gotta love how Windows can make your life so miserable at times.
