Its a neat service, more actively updated than ituneregistry (http://itunesregistry.com) (sorry Mark), and far reaching.

Personally I use it for narcissistic purposes, because I like to see what I've been listening to. I've not tried the latest installment of the radio function, but it used to be ok (read so-so). If you're looking for a music community, Last.fm is the place for you. If you're looking for internet radio tailored to you, take a gander at the Music Genome Project. (http://www.pandora.com)

Sorry to wake up this thread, but I've been having trouble with last.fm. So, I'm supposed to be able to play iTunes music and it counts it? iTunes is checked for it in preferences, but it's not working? I just have no clue. I'm being dumb, but I just don't quite get this. :(
Any help would be so much appreiciated!

you're supposed to be on-line to do this. be sure to check your 'visualizer" settings to see if iTunes is "handshaking" w/ audioscrobbler (the engine for last.fm). once that's confirmed then all songs played in your iTunes that are properly tagged will be recognized by Last.fm.

Are you using the new last.fm client or the old audioscrobbler plug-in? I've heard nothing but bad things about the new client. If you aren't using the audioscrobbler plug-in, you should go back and download it. Give it a shot. It might work better for you.

I had to download the AudioScrobbler plug-in and now it counts my songs just fine.

Did you ever get this working?

If iScrobbler is working, you will have a pair of music notes in your menu bar and they should appear as black. If they are any color there is something wrong.

To get the ball rolling, you may have to pull down the preferences and enter your last.fm username/password, it won't do the reasonable thing and ask. That should be a one-time deal.

I've found that iScrobbler can handle network interruptions badly, and it will start piling songs into its queue even after the connection revives. A quit and re-run usually puts everything back to normal.

I found the demographics mildly interesting:

"72 Male, 4 Female, 12 Unsure.
Average age: 24"

If these demographics represented the actual forum members, 14% of us would be "unsure."

I prefer the old iScrobbler plugin as opposed to this new last.fm client only because it doesn't count my songs anymore unless I open the last.fm program. With the iScrobbler plug in, I'd open up iTunes and it would count automatically.

However, the new last.fm radio feature has opened me up to some new music. :)
