Problems using Compressor application

Ive been using Final Cut Pro and was trying to convert the final full quality dv quicktime file to mpeg2 using the Compressor application. I selected 2 presets but when I clicked submit it said;

"Cannot submit batch,
Unable to connect to background process"

Any idea what this means?
