my family has recently signed up for adsl broadband that supplys a usb modem. however the intention is to set up a home network with a wireless router. im not a big networking geek but from what i have seen routers come with an ethernet connection for input. what would be the best way to solve this problem?
cheers

Some routers have a USB port for this very situation. Apart from that:

1) Use a PC or Mac with Internet Connection Sharing to share out the USB modem.

2) Buy a router with a built-in modem and simply don't use the USB one (this is probably the best solution as it's one box).

could you recommend a decent router with built in modem? the range needs to be fairly decent and mac compatible

Pretty much anything on this page will be fine (http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopSearch.asp?CategoryID=1). Setup is generally browser based, but a quick check of a few reviews might be wise just in case any require IE (it'd be rare).

Or for a little more with built in Wireless (http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopSearch.asp?CategoryID=80).

Personally I am a fan of 3Com, but most major brands are fine.

www.newegg.com would be a good place to start looking.

Hmm, all the prices appear to be in US Dollars and we, here in the UK, use Pounds Sterling!

Can you ask them for a router with an ethernet connection on it? Your life will be much easier and more pleasant if they can give you one, or give you a credit to go buy one.
