Wouldn't have guessed - this has been announced for weeks. Conroe in July and Merom in August. Not news.

Sounds fair enough....maybe Intel Core duo wayne processor....or rick...whatever works.

Quite a confusing launch- the chip has a number of 5100, while some OLDER Xeons are in the 7000 series!


No wonder Apple doesn't even use these numbers. They just give the clock speed (eg 2.13 GHz).

Reuters indicated this was going to happen this week. As for the processor name, why would they rename the processor to core 2 duo? I believe the XEON has a history of using different technologies under the same name, from Pentium II on.

Anyway, this sounds like an awesome processor. I'm anxious to see what it can do.

Wouldn't have guessed - this has been announced for weeks.

Remember, we're used to IBM and Motorola delaying chip releases for weeks or months. Having a chip ready on schedule is huge for an Apple-ite!
