On Apple's website under information about Airport Express it mentions that the express can automatically detect an existing airport signal and extend the range of the first wireless router. Apple says that this function will work with Airport systems only. My question is, can I get the express to extend the range of a wifi signal that isn't coming out of an airport base station? I am going to need better range at an event im working at but the wireless router there is a linksys I believe. Please advise the best option is there is one. 🙂

People have had mixed results with Linksys, but it's worth a shot. It's certainly possible. 🙂
AFAIK, Linksys is the only brand that can be hacked to do this. However, an AirPort can connect to almost any wireless network without any hacks but it will not extend the range.
