I've been having sudden freezes on my trackpad.
There is NO RESPONSE whatsoever after a few minutes of turning it on.
Everything runs fine in the background - I run Paup* analyses in the terminal window - which just keeps right on going. And, I can awaken the mac as it goes to sleep by using the power button... it's just the trackpad that no longer works.
the problem is pretty consistent.
any ideas for a fix would be appreciated.
thanks folks!

I just realized that my keyboard doesn't do much at all - either.
I can't hit return to do a shutdown when the shutdown window comes up from pushing the power button.
so it's trackpad and keys that freeze. (I can't do force quits either)

Return It. Now. It is a bad MacBook. Before you return, you may want to do this:
Insert your Mac OS X install disc
Restart your computer
After the DONG, hold d
This opns Apple Hardware test.
Test your macchine.

thanks I'll try that...
it seems like its a sleep problem - the machine's keyboard and trackpad cannot reawaken.
maybe I'll just stop it from EVER sleeping. :p

Try the space bar to wake your MacBook from sleep...

showed no problems after a couple of passes.
this machine is only 2 weeks old.
so I can take advantage of warrenty if the problem is persistent further.
I just set sleep options so that it happens much less... we'll see if that helps any. But when it freezes... NO keys work, not spacebar, not trackpad, not any but the power button.

I'm having a very similar problem. I wake my 1GHz 14" iBook up from sleep and almost every time the keyboard and trackpad do not work. The power button work. All the stuff on the screen still moves (cursor blinks, various other small animations). Then, after maybe 45 seconds the keyboard and trackpad spring back to life and will work fine until I put the computer to sleep again. The computer works fine off of a cold boot or restart too.
Can anyone give me any advice here?
