Does anyone have a GOOD story about Apple these days??

Hello all ...I love this forum and Mac's ...but all I hear lately is..."bad this, overheating that, click whrrrrr shutdowns, creepy sales agents, DOA Mac's, warping, exploding batteries, burnt knees, delayed delivery's, and on and on...
if I were thinking of switching and checked out this site I would run for the hills with my Dell stuffed tightly under my arms!
I have never had any of the horrendous problems that haunt some posters ...thank heaven...as a matter a fact my SuperDrive was acting up two weeks ago, I called Apple, got a work order number, brought in my iMac and had a brand new Drive within 3 days, no question, no charge and they shipped the drive overnight ...and the service was great!
My question is , surely there are GOOD, GREAT story's about Apple, their products and why we all love them ?????

Flawless (knocks on wood) 20" Core Duo iMac - only problem I had was with Patriot sending me a bad stick of RAM. But, their customer service was excellent, and my second stick works perfectly.

It's the nature of forums to focus on the bad and overlook the good because so many threads are asking for help. There's not much point in starting a thread, telling everyone that everything's fine with the new Mac. :)

I received a refurbed 17" CD iMac Monday, it's been a pleasure so far. I think there's one dead pixel off to the bottom right, and the case could use a good buff and polish, but since I'm passing this on to my parents as soon as the Intel iMacs hit a point I want to jump on (be it Merom and a better graphics card, or a Conroe, or a 23" iMac - heh - whatever).

Things I have, however, discovered:
160GB is a lot less than two 250+GB drives and an external 300GB backup. It has given me a reason to prune the old iTunes library, though.

Shipping OS X with 512GB is a joke. I need to order RAM tonight to get it here by Friday, I guess.

On sites like this you going to end up getting people complaining, not praising. People will always find something wrong, and thats fine as it makes room for Apple to improve. BUt people need to remember Apple does things right

My 20" is awesome. One dead pixel. I think I may be getting my display replaced though because there is a dark area forming around it.

Will be upgrading to 2Gb of Ram soon, which will be fantastic.

my macbook i just got today. no mooing whatsoever. the cpu gets warm like people have said, but thats how core duo is. the computer has zero flaws. its amazing!

I've got two good ones:

I bought one of the very first 17" MBPs off the line without even really thinking about it, because I needed a laptop immediately and wanted to get my hands into the Intel Macs for experience's sake. So far, it's run absolutely flawlessly for me. The closest thing to a complaint I could have is that the case gets a little toasty under load, but it's no hotter than any other fast laptop I've used recently. In fact, when I installed 10.4.7 earlier today, my uptime was at 24 days, and that includes waking and sleeping the thing at minimum two or three times a day and installing every oddball SMC related doodad I could think of, not to mention using Parallels a bunch.

Where I work, there is one co-worker who's a longtime Windows user and an experienced electronics/hardware guy. He has, for the past several years, taken every opportunity to poke fun at those piece-of-junk "Macinsquash" computers and my preference for them.

Well, the guy has gotten so sick of Windows that he started asking me questions now and then about Macs, and seemed a lot less prone to mock them than he had been.

Well, over the weekend, he went and bought an Intel iMac, and so far he's happy with it. I will add that, so far as I know, "happy" is not an experience he's had in relation to a computer for as long as I've known him.

Frankly, if you'd told me this fellow would be buying a new Mac last year, I would have laughed in your face.

Well, to start with, I am still using a G4 450mhz (single-processor) tower that I bought 6 1/2 years ago when the G4 first came out. This computer has survived 10.0, Jaguar and is currently running Panther just fine. Not to mention it handles all the Photoshop I want to do, and that includes 275 mb files. Though I do have to admit the refresh was a little slow when working with 94 layers, but what do you expect. It has only 768 mb RAM and AGP graphics to boot. While it was under Applecare, what seems like a long time ago, Apple replaced the optical drive when that failed. Would have cost me more than the Applecare itself. They have also replaced the optical drive in my wife's Rev A. 12" PB when that failed as well as its battery and our Airport Extreme Base Station, paying for that Applecare and then some.

Most recently my 3G 40 gig iPod (the last of the black and white screens) was having minor battery issues as well as an issue with the headphone jack. It was almost 2 years old, but I had bought the one year Applecare on that as well, and they replaced it. Not with a refurb mind you, but a brand new unit of the same generation.

I haven't had many problems at all with my Apple gear, and when there have been issues, they have always come through. Now, you may want to note that I did work for Apple for a short time, and let me say my leaving while voluntary wasn't exactly amicable. However, I don't have any connections at Apple that get me any sort of preferential treatment. I am just another consumer. If I had my way there is a least one individual I worked for who I'd like to see gone. But I wouldn't hold that against the company or its products. And soon, very soon, I am planning on replacing my old sawtooth with either a Mini or an iMac. - or a midlevel tower if they introduce one into the lineup. All I have to do is decide.

I've had very few issues with Apple stuff and we've got 4 modern Macs (and one Mac II), 4 full-size iPods and 2 iPod shuffles in the house. I can think of a few small things, but nothing compared to the trouble we have with 2 of the 3 active Windows machines in the house. Those things are a nightmare.

Yeah, now that my macbook runs windows, I haven't used OS X in weeks. Hmm. Why?

- In XP there is no mooing or whining.
- XP is faster. I know I know, it is though.
- XP runs all my applications I need for work.
- Office on X runs in rosetta, as well as photoshop. Blah.


Now that I am running XP on a mac its really not like switching back. or is it?

As I posted recently, I had amazing service at the apple genius bar. I walked in there with an iPod that has had persistant problems. They replaced it with a new one on the spot with a smile and without making me demonstrate the problem. It was an iPod photo -- they had a replacement on hand.

This new update seems to make my MBP about 8 degrees cooler. That had been my only complaint with the machine -- now it seems perfect!

Every IBM thinkpad I have ever owned has been perfect out of the box for years. I even totally took apart my old thinkpad a20p and used it for a car computer, got tired of it and put it back together and it runs perfectly without fault.

NOW. Every mac I have ever owned goes just like this.

- Buy it. It is crap. DOA or has a major defect.
- Take it back to the apple store and demand a new one.
- New one is perfect.

This has happened with 3 Powerbooks, a G4 and a G5. A pismo, Titanium and an Aluminum. Apple's quality control has SUCKED for many many years. I never ever had problems with my 8500s or any from that line. I wish apple would get it together. Now lets talk about my ipod scratches. :eek:

Yeah, I put mine in a rubber case. Took it off recently to move to a new case. SCRATCHED TO DEATH. How is this possible? You can scratch the ipod by rubbing it with your finger. Its a joke plain and simple. I am not buying another ipod until they fix this issue. Hell, all they have to do is make the outer layer out of the same stuff the invisible shield is made out of. :rolleyes:

Tis true...:( the iPods do eventually break, i think it is usually the battery life, thats what happened to mine..., but "I" think that apple does this delibratelly so that we HAVE to buy new 1's u see ;)

and an iPod and an Apple laptop are not rreeeaallly the same thing mate...Take the Plunge! :D

I own a lovely iBook G4. This laptop is a luxury compared to my dell. My advice when buying a new mac is stick with the classics such as....iMac, eMac, iBook, PowerBook. I have heard too many sad stories with the newer lines of apple hardware. :(

My one year, one month old powerbook is gorgeous. Only flaws that came up were me using it in an unairconditioned environment last summer so i have the sweat stains, and a couple of dents from when someone dropped my bag. Neither of those really apple's fault (though it is the aluminum's) and it still runs great.

My sister's 5 month old powerbook is equally great, though without any dents or stains, and a higher rez screen (it seems so wrong she has a nicer model than me)


My friend just got a macbook after being hardcore windows, he seems to really like it.
And my other got an imac and he only has problems with windows crashing, none with OSX or the imac (though he said burning discs get really hot..which i'd say is expected)
Oh, and another has about a 2 year old 12 inch powerbook, run like a charm despite being beat to hell. It's impressive actually.

So pretty much..5 switchers, no bad stories.

At uni there was an old mac (pre LC series I don't know what model) that was still running every day of it's life as a Quark server. This I think is a symbol of old Apple.

New Apple is: eMac DOA and replaced, 1st ipod died 1 week out of warranty, 2nd ipod died 2 months and was replaced, imac needed screen and powersupply fixed, and my latest purchase, Macbook problems yet resolved with spacebar not working and screen attached wonky!

I have a friend that has no less than 4 Macs in his house and never had an issue with any of them.

Rev A 17 inch G5 iMac ordered the day they were announced, no issues at all. Sometimes the fan noise is a bit much, but the room I am in can get hot and I do a lot of processor intensive things.

4G 20 GB iPod ordered the same day. No issues at all. This thing has been great. Sure it has a few scratches here and there, but it is always in an iSkin and that seems to do a pretty good job.

12 inch 1.33 Ghz Powerbook G4 refurb ordered a year ago. No problems at all. Great little machine for my wife.

512 MB iPod Shuffle refurb ordered about 6 months ago. No problems at all. Great for the gym.

I have never had one issue with an Apple product since I switched in September 2004. Now I want a Macbook badly!

My girlfriend and I just went in to the Apple Store (Northbrook Court, IL) and purchased two black MacBooks last night. They're both absolutely flawless. We installed the 10.4.7 update, and everything's working great. No dead pixels, no whine, no moo, not even that hot. On top of that, the salespeople were both very helpful, but maybe that was just because we were buying about $4,500 worth of stuff.
