I just bought an external HD and the manual says I should reformat it using Disk Utility to an OS X supported format. Is there a particular one I should use (case sensitive, journaled, etc.)? I'll be using it only has an HD for my Final Cut files.

I've always used Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and had no troubles. I chose this as my internal disk is formatted this way, so I figured it would be the best general choice.

I use that format for my LaCie 160GB and no problems.

formatting options in OSX Disk Utility

Anyone else have this problem:
When I select a partition to format on my external harddrive I don't get the MS-DOS option (in OSX) that I keep reading about.... meaning I can't format a partition to FAT32... any ideas....

Thanks
