PSM: Sony and Microsoft seem to be taking the exact same path.

Hirai: We seem to. Every time we go down a path, we look behind and they're right there - we just can't shake these guys. I wish that they would come up with some strategies of their own, but they seem to be going down the path of everything we do. If you look at their strategy in other business areas as well, they tend to do that.

Hirai:...And the other thing is, you take a look at, for example, the fact that we incorporate the Blu-ray drive from day one. You're not going to be asking me, 'So, talk to me about this Blu-ray add-on that you have. Does it work for games? Is it just for movies?' That's exactly the kind of pitfall you fall into if you launch something that's too early, too premature...

Yup, don't worry, it was almost a week since the last crazy thing Sony said. We can all rest now. *aaahhhh*

Live (an online service) is like 3 to 4 years old and now sony is rolling out an online service.

Nintendo has a motion sensor controller and now all of a sudden sony has a motion sensor controller (tilt control).

The N64 has analog sticks plus a rumble pack and all of a sudden sony rolls out with a dual shock controller with analog sticks and rumble.

Sega makes a CD based console (the Sega CD attachment) in response sony makes a CD attachment for nintendo (actually two versions were made one was an attachment for the SNES and the other was called a Playstation that was a SNES and the CD player built together). Eventually a console called the Playstation is born out of that venture.

Sony's impressive track record for innovation is truly jaw dropping. If anything sony is trailing behind every single console manufacture out now.

Wow.... Sony is definitely tops when it comes to saying the dumbest things. They should stick to reading the statistic charts other people make for them.

Hahahaha. Sony is always good for a quick laugh.

If they don't lose this round from their arrogance alone I'd be surprised.

ah yes, but this is only the blogosphere. Sure some newspapers will have a section for gaming and electronics and will laugh too. but mostly Joe Public doesn't know.
Not to say it wont affect them. Come Christmas and there is a £150, £270 or £430 machine to pick from Joe Public normally goes for the cheaper one (not always, usually the middle priced machine). It's a recorded fact that Joe Public rarely bought a machine over £400, 3DO and co. being dominant examples.
Joe Public will also laugh when it finds out theres no rumble in the PS3 controller. They may still buy it, but rumble has become a standard feature these days.
Joe Public liked casual games. which is where Sony used to stand, but buckled in with the PS2 and is trying to snatch back with EyeToy, Guitar Hero stuff in it's later life.

I told a coursemate that the PS3 controller didn't have rumble and he closed his eyes, looked down and shook his head. A member of the Joe Public legion.
