That's why you start it, go to bed, and hope your xbox doesn't explode for being on so long...

this is semi-off topic, but is anyone else pissed that they haven't released Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting yet?! WTF?!

Single player is alright. Multiplayer is generic boringness.

Yea I wasn't too keen on the Prey PC demo. Shame, I was really looking forward to this. from waaay back when I first saw the Max Payne trailer that looked nothing like the finished game.

Hope the full game really improves. It's good but this could be so excellent.

I didn't bother with the multiplayer after the abyssmal single player experience :(

Single player was pretty interesting. I didn't try multiplayer yet, though.

the biggest problem with this game.

DOOM 3 Engine

Why does every game that uses it just look the same. Plasticy.

Because it's the core innovation in the engine, the tech used (normal maps) to produce 'better' visuals with less polygons blankets everything with that nice plastic coating thanks to how it lights objects. Just a bad implementation, imo.

It looked amazing back before Doom 3 was out and they were demoing the lighting effects and normal mapping... but after Half-Life 2 it just seemed unexceptable... I hate glossy-everything! :\

I dunno, Half Life 2 looks too bland, Doom 3 looks too extravagant.

id - "yea we have all these graphics options and shaders available to us - let's see if we can use all of them!"
Valve - "Lets try and get this game running on even the slowest machines, then release a new version with HDR that so much more horsepower!"
gameplay wise I love both. Doom for the retro feel, and being the only new game that can scare me, and I love storylines involving religion in a non-preachy way. Half Life for the Lost style storyline (what is going on?), for the less-cinematic approach.

yeah, HL2s engine is pure genius! it can reverse shadows! :p

haha. yea HL2 handles shadows very badly. I'm a huge fan of dynamic lighting. to me HL2 just looks like HL1 with higher polygons and more textures. Doesn't make it any less great. just my observations.

I thought the single player game was good fun... Portals, enemies on the walls/ceilings, spirit walking, fighting back to your body when you die, Cherokee backstory, cool guns... it doesn't feel like "Generic Space Shooter 7". I'll buy this one when it comes out.

I agree, single player demo was enjoyable enough. Only I wonder will the rest of the game just be the same thing over and over and over... After the demo levels I wanted a bit of change, the portal thing nice, but yeah seen it done it got the t-shirt now what else ye got?

I'll wait till people post reviews before I blow 75 on another game...

Well I bought Prey, ChromeHounds & LOTR 2 for the 360. There's nothing now out till September so these should keep me occupied.

Chromehounds as surprised me the most. Cant believe the poor demo, and bad reviews (which were written before the servers went LIVE so how they could review multiplayer which the game excels at is questionable straight away)

If you look at the Chromehounds review on IGN - then look at teh Reader Reviews you will see what I mean....

Prey looks pretty darn impressive, story line etc, Hey Macrumoruser have you played it through? Anyways I can tell you better have some juice for this one. I wonder what will the minimum specs for PC's/Macs? After two levels Its going on my must buy list.

To be honest havent had time to play through it yet. I've got about an hour after the demo finishes - further into it.

Level design is very good so far, but multiplayer is a write off. 2 modes - DM & Team DM and only 8 maps. Very poor multiplayer altogether.

But single player is very good.

I still haven't had time to sit with the Demo, but tell me, is the Demo much different then what you played with the actual game disc (difficulty, movements, graphics)? Hopefully I'll have time tonight to take this for a spin.

Prey is really fun on the PC, I don't normally like that kind of game but really liked prey Multiplayer.

Still got no further into it, been hooked on ChromeHounds on LIVE :)

But yeah it's pretty much the same as the demo. Framerate seems a little smoother though, though it wasnt bad by any means in the demo.

The game is pretty challenging, the demo gives you an example of some of the puzzles you will come across, but in the 70 minutes extra of the game I've clocked up - there were some really clever puzzle / level designs.

But in all honesty it is just more and more of the same. But hey most FPS's are like that these days anyway.

Control via the controller is fluid and well suited no issues at all.

Graphically its Very Good and there are some really nice textures and stuff, and lighting is generally excellent throughout BUT being the Doom 3 engine it does pretty much look like a slightly upgraded version of those (doom3 & quake4) so you know what to expect and it takes some of the visceral experience away if youve seen it all before.
